I'm going to assume it has an analogy in the German election, though there are many more players,

and it's not the same governance, and it's for the Bundestag.

The headline in the FT tells the story.

German manufacturing job losses deepen fears over industrial decline, subhead.

Voters prepare to go to polls this weekend as political parties seek remedies for economic

heartlands woes.

Judy, a very good evening to you.

You have warned about this for quite some time, more than a year.

The polite term is deindustrialization. The FT records 250,000 lost manufacturing jobs over these last

years, masked somewhat by the gains in other sectors. I noted health care and governance was

gaining jobs. That means you've grown 4% of your jobs, but the manufacturing jobs are a blow.

The question now is, is there a remedy that Herr Mertz offers, given that he's leading right now in the polling to form a coalition?

Does the outsider Alice Vidal and AFT,

does it speak to manufacturing losses?

And also, I'm told by the FT,

that the manufacturing losses follow the high energy costs

that everyone's paying in Germany,

especially the chemical industry.

Germany's long been a leader in that from 100 years, but now it's losing its edge

because not only do you need petroleum to manufacture chemicals, but also you need energy
