I feel like through the years, the topic of imposter syndrome has popped up in some of the conversations with our guests.

0:08.5

Yeah, for sure. It seems like no matter how far along somebody is in their life and their journey, there are always moments where they're like, you know, should I be here?

0:17.5

Will everyone realize that I shouldn't be here? Yeah. I guess in a way, like, that makes sense because the textbook definition

0:24.7

is the subjective experience of perceived self-doubt in one's abilities and accomplishments

0:31.2

compared with others, despite evidence to suggest the contrary. So it does make sense that that we would hear this from, like, successful people.

0:41.6

And so I guess I'm curious, have you experienced that, like, earlier in your career?

0:45.6

Or even, like, in this chapter of your creative?

0:48.9

Because, I mean, you know, what you have done with climbing has carried you into, I mean, any number of sort of surreal situations that must have been hard for your 20-year-old self to imagine.

1:04.3

Maybe even for your, like, 30-year-old self.

1:06.5

The last 10 years has probably been nuts.

1:08.9

Yeah, I mean, you know, obviously the Oscars come to mind.

1:11.7

Like all kinds of, or like meeting, uh, whatever, Prince William and Princess Kate at the Bafta is like the British Academy Awards. You're on Formula One, like, what do you say? What do you say like when you're like with royalty? I think you say your highness. I don't know. I mean, I think we just shook hands or, I forget if we're even allowed to touch.

1:27.9

You just did exactly what everybody nearby was doing.

1:29.9

You just defer to authority you know you're like oh wow but no I mean there are tons of things like that where you're meeting like a list celebrities and sort of like oh geez like why am I here again then you're like all right you know it's just doing the thing have you ever felt like you've had a starstruck moment or been overwhelmed by it?

1:46.0

I don't know, I'm trying to think. I mean, honestly, I think meeting royalty, like, I think meeting Prince William, Princess Kate was maybe the most sort of regal event. I was like, well, meeting Taylor Swift. You're like, oh my God, that's Taylor Swift. But for the most part, when you meet like big icons in real life, you're just kind of like, oh, it's another human just doing the thing.

2:03.0

Yeah.

2:04.0

You know. Taylor Swift. But for the most part, when you meet like big icons in real life, you're just kind of like, oh, it's another human just doing the thing. Yeah. That has their own sense of imposter syndrome, probably. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, they're struggling with all the exact same things. They were like, oh my God, what am I doing here? So I don't think you knew this, but David Letterman, the iconic late-night television host, his people reached out to us.

2:19.8

And last year, you did a special event with him in New York City, a live interview.

2:23.8

And they recorded the audio of the evening, and they, like, asked me, do you think you would want to use this on the show?

2:29.9

So, like, I went out on a run.

2:31.7

I plugged the earphones in, and I started listening and laughing.

2:37.3

And I gotta say, like, I was just, I was proud of you, dude.
