I'm John Batchel with my good colleague Gregory Coppe, the author of a new book, Noble

State, recommending the strengths of monarchy to represent to the nation, the spirit of the nation

without political rancor, which is commonplace now in republics. And Gregory educates me that republics have a lifespan.

And we've reached ours in the U.S. Britain's reached theirs. Rome reached theirs once

about a time. And then, Gregory, I read a few random headlines from covering the royals.

For example, the king practices CPR and a dummy

with a big smile in his face, or a picture of the Prince of Wales trying his hand at refereeing

football, or beaming Prince and Princess of Wales or sign of Royal Harmony. How does this help, Gregory?

What are they up to?

Well, the first thing they're up to is trying to ensure that the British public in the role

that the king has as king of the United Kingdom,

that the British population or the United Kingdom population feels that it can celebrate,

if you like, positive events, positive values.

And that's what the monarchy is supposed to do.

It's supposed to represent the national values and ideals and nobility of the nation

so that you can have some distraction from political discourse and disagreements,

which is left to the politicians.

But what we've seen in the past week is not only the fact that the king has been,

and Prince of Wales and their spouses have been unrelenting in their public activities,

but that the king and the queen and the prince and princess of Wales

took a large portion of their time on Monday to celebrate the Commonwealth Day.

Now, this is very significant. It's the first appearance of the King at the Commonwealth Day services for two years,
