Summary

The new recruit this week is known more for the cha cha, the rumba and the salsa, than the jog, the sprint or the tabata. She’s a World Dance Champion and a regular on Strictly, in this episode Jenni is joined by the uber fun and incredibly talented Katya Jones! Now Katya took up running to maintain her fitness levels when she’s not dancing, which was most of lockdown. She quickly realised that although she is very much ‘dance-fit’, she really needed to get ‘run-fit’. Jenni and Katya discuss how fitness requirements for different sports vary so much; Katya explains why she never did any running whilst growing up in Russia. They also talk about how you can do decent dance training on a treadmill and why running is such a great way to get to know your local community. It was a lot of fun recording this episode - so we hope you enjoy listening.

Hi, hi Jenny. Thanks for having me. Listening to your introduction, I'm definitely not a gazelle.

1:03.7

I'm thinking to myself. I bet you are. I bet you are. I bet you still, because of your dancing

1:10.0

background, I bet when you run,

1:12.6

you still make it look very elegant and lovely. Do you know what? As you said, I am a very new

1:19.5

runner and it all happened literally a few days after the lockdown has been announced and we were

1:25.9

only allowed out for exercise purposes.

1:29.0

So I thought I'll give it to go. I've never done sort of consistent running, you know, as a

form of exercise. But I started and it wasn't easy and I can confess I'm still not fully in love with it, but I'm committed
