In episode thirty-seven of The Running Effect (with Dominic Schlueter), I speak with Julia Heymach. Julia runs competitively for the University of Stanford where she is a three-time All-American. Prior to her time there, she had one of the most historic high school careers in the state of Texas highlighted by 4:40 in the 1600 to win her State Championship in 2015. 

 

In this episode, Julia takes us through her remarkable career from when she first started running, to this past year of success running for Stanford! This episode will leave you motivated and inspired to chase after your goals!

Julia Heymock. She is super, super accomplished. For instance, in high school, she was the Texas 6A record holder in the 1600,

running 440 to win the state title in 2015. She also had a 3,200 meter personal best of 1014.

She was a two-time national cross-country finalist, and then she won 2A, 6A state titles each in the 1600, and in cross-country.

So obviously, a super, super impressive high school career.

So we go through that, but then we also go through her years at Stanford.

Some of the ups and downs she experienced, kind of she didn't experience too many downs,

which was kind of cool to hear about, like how she, she didn't really get injured much. So we go

through that. Some of the things she thinks, some of the reasons she thinks why she stayed healthy

and that consistency and how it played a role in her success. We also go through kind of the COVID

shutdown, how that affected her

mindset, and then also how she bounced back, placing 13th at this past NCAA championships

in cross-country and helping her team repeat the title at Pac-12s. So some super awesome stuff.

US Olympic trials where she did incredible in the US 1500 meters. That was a super awesome race to go
