Alex, you were back in the valley this fall. You spent some time on the side of L-Cap and on the side of Middle Cathedral. What is your sort of go-to comfort piece of clothing?

0:10.8

I just spent six days on the wall with Tommy climbing L-Cap. And my evening routine that just screamed indulgent comfort like this is beautiful is I would take off my harness and my climbing pants and I would

change into long johns and down like puffy pants and then and then just put a slinger on my

waist and then and then I put my big puffy on top it's basically my Antarctic style puppy and then

you just feel like you're wearing a sleeping bag and you can just sit around on the ledge and just like

watch the moon rise you are a California climber through and through. Yeah, it was chilly though. Basically, I'm just using the advanced mountain kit. And actually, I found that it really made a difference because we were getting up way before sunrise because we wanted to be climbing as soon as it was light. And if you're trying to get out of your sleeping bag at 4.30 in the morning, you kind of want the big layers because you just want to feel totally warm. The North Face has you covered. Discover

left before climbing Taipei 101 live in front of millions of people watching Netflix. People are talking. There's a lot of questions around this whole thing. I think on one level, this seems like it's kind of out of left field, but the reality is that this is something you've been trying to make happen for a long time. I mean, I've been climbing on play structures, climbing on buildings, since long before I started rock climbing. I climbed on this school by my house basically as soon as I moved there when I was six years old.

1:32.3

And that's before I ever started climbing. I wanted to get to the summit of anything, which was trees or buildings or whatever else.

1:38.3

And so I mean, I basically have loved climbing on anything that I'm allowed to climb on for my whole life.

1:43.3

It's just so hard to get

1:44.4

permission to climb on a building. And in this case, we got permission. So we're climbing a

freaking giant building. So this is like kind of going to be a peak life experience for you.

1:55.0

We figured we'd dig in a little bit. What does something like this take? Where did the idea come from?

1:59.8

And how do you prepare for it? I'm Alex Arnold. I'm Fitzca Hall. This is climbing gold. You've wanted to do a climb like this for a long time.

2:33.3

Like when did you become fascinated by climbing buildings? you wanted to do a climb like this for a long time.

2:37.6

Like when did you become fascinated by climbing buildings?

2:39.8

It's not like I became fascinated.

2:44.1

This is actually like when people ask, you're like, when did you become a free soloist?

2:47.3

And I'm kind of like, well, it's not like I gave up bouldering to become a free soloist.

2:50.7

It's not like I'm giving up rock climbing to climb buildings. It's more just that I've always loved climbing everything. It's just that you so rarely get the opportunity to climb buildings. And so... But did you think about it as a kid? Like when you were in Sacramento? Oh, no. I mean, I climbed buildings way before I climbed rock just because when I was a kid, there was like a school near my house that I grew up that I was always climbing on the roof of the school and like playing around on the structure. And just like, yeah, I mean, I've always loved climbing on tops of things. And so before I started going to the climbing gym, I would climb on roofs and, you know, I mean, some of my early memories of my old house when my mom said I was like jumping off the roof and like jumping into the bushes and things. So no, I mean,

I've always liked climbing on things even before I was, you know, allowed to rock climb. But at some point,
