I'm John Bachelor with Colonel Jeff McCausen, CBS News.

We turn to the war in the north.

This is the north of Israel, where up to 100,000 Israelis have been evacuated now for eight months

because of the indirect fire by Hezbollah, a massive army in Lebanon that is

connected intimately not only with Beirut but with Tehran.

Hezbollah is well trained, well armed, and it has, I'm told, more than 100,000, told more than a hundred thousand maybe more than a

150,000 missiles some of which can hit the targets they're aiming at because

they've been augmented. They've also been using anti-tank missiles

effectively because there's no easy

defense along that border. Now fires have been started by Hezbollah burning across

the landscape where no people live but it it chokes the air with smoke

up to 10 kilometers into the into Israel. The headlines in Jerusalem point to a

decision near about what is to be done in Hezbollah.

Jeff, the anecdote that I have from these last days is that there is a sizable mobile military force in the north ready to go and

they've been sitting in their trenches getting fat on the good food that's

sent to them by the people of Israel.

They're ready to go and clean out Hezbollah.

Is this a different kind of war than Gaza?

Is this a major war, Jeff?

It would well be a major war Jeff? It will be a major war John, but at the same time of course the

Israelis have to recognize that they've got other wars so a quick moment on that and

that is they also have got forces they've been deployed there's more violence on the
