than 9,500 women and 14,500 children killed in the Gaza conflict at that time.

Two days later, May 8th, the report said 5,000 women and 8,000 children had been killed so far in the Gaza conflict.

No explanation at the time other than the fact that something was wrong at the United Nations.

I welcome David Adesnick of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracy, the Director of Research,

to help me about the story since those what you'd have to say paradoxical events of

May 6 and May 8th. David a very good evening to you. I believe the clue here

leads to the United Nations and the

revisions. Has the UN explained this discontinuity? Good evening to you.

Good evening. It's always a pleasure to be back on the show and I think the answer to your question is the UN has attempted to explain away the problem rather than giving a frank answer.

The answer requires us to know who reported these numbers and how they were

changed so dramatically. I won't speak to the the UN itself. I'll speak to where they got these numbers from

there are two different organizations what is the difference between

them? Sure the two organizations they're both under Hamas control but they're

still sometimes on a different page.

One is the health ministry in Gaza, the organization actually responsible for hospitals.

The other is the government media office in Gaza, which also sometimes puts out numbers shares them with the

UN. There's serious issues with both of them in terms of the information they've

given to journalists to Western governments to the UN.

But the basic story here is the UN had been using the media offices

wilder numbers for almost two months

and then suddenly switched to using the more restrained but
