| 1:15.7 | what does SETI stand for and what is your mission? Good evening to you. |
| 1:19.9 | Thank you, John. Well, SETI, which is only one letter different from my name, |
| 1:24.4 | by coincidence, stands for the search for extra terrestrial intelligence. In other words, |
| 1:29.9 | this is a search for life in space, but not just any life. This has to be life that's smart enough |
| 1:36.4 | to be able to hold up its side of the conversation, if you will. |
| 1:41.9 | And your mission right now over these many years is to search, to build an apparatus, |
| 1:48.0 | how do you think of it now, Seth? Well, the way it's been done and is still being done, |
| 1:54.4 | the idea of being, as you say, to find our cosmic brothers, other intelligent |
| 2:00.1 | intelligence could be some sort of alien or even machine intelligence elsewhere in the galaxy. |
| 2:05.6 | The way we do that is use big antennas known as radio telescopes and point them in the directions |
| 2:11.6 | of some nearby star systems hoping to pick up a signal that would betray somebody's existence. |
