And today's title is Hard Lessons from the Life of Jacob, Part Four. Part Four, Hard Lessons from the Life of Jacob.

And actually, I had many subtitles for the message you're going to hear.

My favorite was journeying to the, to get to a place where we say everything is for me, not against me.

Because actually, this is kind of an encapsulation of the whole life of Jacob found in the book of Genesis.

And what I do is I contrast his life with the life of his son, Joseph.

It's such a sharp contrast. And Joseph had a deep sense that God was for him, you know,

Romans 820, that God was just for him. Thus, he was faithful and trusting and patient and

incredibly godly. Jacob, on the other hand, actually says these words in Genesis 42.

He thinks everything's against him when he finds out about having to go to Egypt,

then bring his son Benjamin, et cetera, and he thinks everything against him.

He can't see that God's orchestrating all things for him.

So this podcast actually revolves around three life-defining choices that we all have to make.

You know, then again, the reason I love the life of Jacob is because I'm Jacob, you're Jacob, we're all Jacob.

And again, we say, oh, we serve the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

We think, oh, because they're great models.

No, no, they're actually very broken, failing models.

It's about, we say we serve the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

What we're saying is it is God's mercy, love, and grace that enables us to stay with him.

We're a community of men and women like Jacob who limp depended on God.
