0:08.0	And today, I'm going to offer you a part two of hard lessons from the life of Jacob.
0:14.0	Hard lessons from the life of Jacob. And actually, it's coming out of the end of sermon I gave on Genesis chapter 28.

0:26.4	Now, Jacob's life is an incredible model for us, especially in leadership, because we see him is grabbing, striving, manipulating, not living in a place of rest with God as he leads, but very
0:34.3	much fearful and thus striving.
0:37.4	And so we begin by seeing him manipulating his older brother
0:43.4	Esau out of his birthrights. And he's fearful. Things are stacked against him. He's not receiving
0:50.7	as much as his older brother. He's not able to trust the simple promises
0:55.5	of God. So he's constantly taking destiny his own hands. And so he exploits Esau, his older
1:00.9	brother's needs, takes advantage of him in a very narcissistic way. And in chapter 25, he steals
1:07.3	his blessing. And then then, I'm sorry, he steals his birthright. And then a couple
1:12.0	chapters later, he basically manipulates and lies and steals his blessing as well from his father,
1:18.5	Isaac. And so at this point, we're going to pick up the story in chapter 28, where Esau's
1:23.7	older brother is bitter, has murder in his heart, and is on his way to kill.
1:28.3	He wants to chase after Jacob and kill him.
1:30.0	Jacob is fearful, and now he is running.
1:32.5	He is fleeing from his life from his brother Esau.
1:35.8	He's wracked with guilt.
1:38.0	He's racked with fear.
1:39.4	He's living on false pretensions.
1:41.2	I mean, his life as a leader is filled with tension, distress, difficulty,
