0:00.0	Hi, my name is Pete Scazzaro. I want to welcome you today to the emotionally healthy leader
0:05.4	podcast. And this week we're going to begin a series on the life of Jacob. And actually it was
0:12.5	subtitled, the striving, rushing, manipulating God followed. We could actually say the striving,
0:17.8	rushing, manipulated leader. That's why he's so relatable. And so we
0:22.7	listen to a few sermons based on his life out of a series I did. And actually, the name Jacob
0:28.2	means grabber or grasper. That's why I so relate to him and I trust you can relate to him as well.
0:36.1	He wanted to get by by manipulating and controlling what actually God wanted to give him
0:40.9	as a gift.
0:42.6	And he struggled, he finagled, he twisted, he strived, he took up a very, very long time to actually
0:53.6	begin to learn to actually trust God, wait on God, and do leadership God's way.
1:00.4	Because true leadership's not about grabbing. It's not about controlling or striving or manipulating out of fear.
1:05.5	But fear is so powerful as such a hold on so many of us. I know myself, I just can think of story after story
1:13.3	of making decisions based on fear rather than actually a place of rest and trust and letting go.
1:20.0	And that great dynamic of leading and yet the same time from a place of rest and stillness
1:25.5	and trust. There's just so much here. And so this first part, one of hard lessons from the life of Jacob,
1:31.1	brings a timeless truth to us.
1:33.4	And we're going to pick it up in the story with his brother, Esau,
1:36.6	as he manipulates the blessing,
1:39.4	a blessing that really God wanted to give him,
1:41.9	but he manipulates and actually takes it out of Genesis
