0:07.3	As I've mentioned before, I've been meditating and pondering the Gospel of Matthew in Jesus'
0:13.4	discipleship and leadership and kingdom now for a number of years. The Lord stopped me for months and months on Matthew 23.
0:24.2	And so I ended up giving a devotion all about this to a small group of pastors that were visiting,
0:28.7	you know, pastoring our passing by our church. And it just came out wonderfully. And I thought,
0:34.6	hey, this is worthy of a podcast. So I realize many of you are walking,
0:38.2	you're driving, you're doing exercise. But this is going to be a bit of a different podcast,
0:43.9	because it's meant to be devotional. So just enjoy, step back. I'm going to read you some of the
0:48.6	scriptures from Matthew 23 as I make some, you know, points. I believe God's saying to us today. Now, Jesus is a sermon. It's a sermon
0:57.9	in Matthew 23 that's so intense, so bitter that some interpreters actually believed that it maybe wasn't
1:04.1	even Jesus. It wasn't authentically Jesus' words because it's so intense. It's so bitter towards
1:10.0	the Pharisees and Sadducees, and it is. But it's really
1:13.9	meant to be a profound warning to all of us, especially in leadership. It's surgery. It's an in-depth,
1:22.3	and very nuanced to look at the demonic temptations that we all face as leaders. So a friend said to me recently,
1:33.2	you know what Pete emotionally healthy discipleship is? It's a street fighting spirituality. It's just,
1:39.6	it's just street. Well, this is very much a street fighter Jesus here in Matthew 23 as he lays it out.
1:46.5	And what I think has helped me see some of the power of this text has been my own engagement
1:54.0	recently with not just millennials, but Generation Z, and diving into the church of the generation behind me.
2:02.4	I'm a boomer. There's Generation X. Those are between 39 and 54 years old. And they've got
2:06.7	millennials, those between 23 and 38. And they got Generation Z, age 22 and below. And while
2:13.7	each generation has differences, what's so fascinating to me is that the demonic
2:21.4	temptations that come to all of us are basically the same.
