Summary

A 10km 9.5% mountain top finish awaited the GC riders of the Giro d'Italia 2021, and Bike Exchange as well as Quickstep were certainly up for the stage today, pacing all day, splitting the peloton at points and then launching attacks with over 7km to go in the climb. One of the most entertaining stages  of this Giro d'Italia so far, with the GC still all to play for in the nasty stage from Verbania tomorrow.

Welcome back to the Lantern Rouge Cycling Podcast with Benji Nyson for stage 19, the second

0:04.8

last road stage of the Giro d'Italia 2021, a proper mountain top finish short stage, 166 Ks.

0:13.2

We've got a 12.8 K, 3% climb, shouldn't concern any of Cameron Meyer types on the GC teams,

0:21.0

then Cat 3, Paso della Colmar, 7.7 Ks at 6%. But there's a long valley after that

0:28.2

false like uphill valley, difficult for the breakaway. I mean, we didn't get a strong break,

0:33.1

but yeah, that was a breakaway killer, this valley of like 20 Ks before 9.6 Ks, 9% up in

0:40.0

Emira. Pretty steady gradient, the first case not so steep, but then the last I think 6 to 8 Ks

0:47.4

in a difficult 11.7, 11.1% and it stays at 9 to 10% for the rest of the climb. So difficult test,

0:55.3

and the GC rankings, just as a reminder, going into the stage, was Engenbone Art and the Melody

1:00.3

of Rosa. He was, believe, where was he Benji? 221 ahead of Corusso, 323 ahead of Simon Yates,

1:07.6

Paso at 6, Minas Carthie 609, Part A, 631, Martinez 717, I'll made at 845, remember I'll

1:14.9

made at 845, then Fostan Martin, way back. Last mountain stage tomorrow, there's going to be

1:21.2

variable weather conditions, you know what you need for variable weather conditions. Look,

1:25.1

cold kit, you've got the pro air base layer, you've got the high-vehs jacket, pair that with their

1:30.0

pro air jersey. What you've got for yourself is the perfect layering system for high mountain

1:35.1

stages. Obviously, most of you are now off to seeing the vertibandia stage tomorrow, probably

1:39.7

going to go to Northern Italy and try and hit back to back 2,000 meter climbs. I don't blame you,

1:44.9

if you want to get the cold kit to make that a more comfortable and faster ride. You can use

1:50.0

our LRCP-20 discount down below, which is, you can apply that on top of already discounted

1:56.5

items. That code will end after the year in Italian, so if you want that discount, use it now,

2:01.7

if you want the cold kits as summer is rapidly approaching. When you saw the break today,

2:08.4

the break go, what chance did you give it to win today's stage?
