Floridians are recovering from Hurricane Milton.

Let's get you caught up with today's seven stories.

Number one, Florida residents are returning to damaged and waterlogged homes.

Hurricane Milton made landfall south of Sarasota at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The storms left at least 14 people dead.

Six of the victims were killed in the tornadoes that

touched down on Florida's Atlantic coast ahead of the hurricane. The

storms punishing winds, rising waters, and torrential rain battered the

state from coast to coast.

It tore the roof off a baseball stadium, destroyed homes, inundated roads, and cut power to about 3 million people.

A local resident spoke to the Associated Press about riding out the

storm in Sarasota. Oh it was loud. I mean it was you heard you saw it looked like

lightning in the sky but it wasn't actually lightning it was the power boxes all exploding in the air it was it was nuts

looking and it was just bang bang you can hear it on the roof you can hear it on the

hitting the windows despite the damage authorities had feared even more catastrophic impacts from the storm

but Milton weakened slightly before coming ashore and did not hit Tampa Bay head on.

That spared the heavily populated area from a potentially devastating storm surge.
