Let's get you caught up with today's seven stories.

Trump spoke for more than 90 minutes at the convention last night in Milwaukee.

He made a gesture toward unity, but he also leaned into the same dark view of

America that has defined his political career over the past nine years. He spoke of American decline and his loathing for political opponents.

He vilified undocumented immigrants as dangerous, describing them without evidence as criminals and

mentally ill, and even as cannibals.

He also described the assassination attempt against him at a campaign rally last Saturday.

When I heard a loud whizzing sound and felt something hit me really, really hard on my right ear. I said to myself, wow, what was that? It can only be a bullet and moved my right hand to my ear, brought it down. My hand was covered with blood.

In his long speech, Trump also spread many falsehoods. We fact-checked him on our website. The Democratic

National Convention starts a month from today in Chicago. It's still shrouded in

uncertainty over the fate of President Biden's campaign.

That brings us to our next story.

Number two, Barack Obama privately expressed doubts about President Biden's re-election bid.

The Post reported yesterday that the former president has had talks with allies in recent days.

He told them that Biden's path to victory has diminished and that he should

seriously consider the viability of his candidacy. But he was also clear in his conversations that the

future of Biden's candidacy is a decision for the president to make.
