I'm Mary Mechley and welcome back to day five of our series this week.

We're exploring the theme to let go of fear.

Those fears that are sometimes hidden and you may be experiencing more fear and anxiety these days

as many people are. This series is by popular request.

Specifically, I've received so many requests from your fellow meditators to manage OCD,

fear, anxiety, and trauma trigger symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder

where certain negative repetitive thoughts run through your mind constantly

or you feel compelled to repeat a certain act again and again

to the point where it takes away from your quality of life.

These are some of the characteristics of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

You might find that you have certain rituals that you do such as lining up your desk items

before you start work or laying out your clothes the night before in a certain way.

But obsessive-compulsive disorder is when you can't control the compulsion to do these rituals

and you find that you spend a lot of time on these rituals and they're triggered

not because you want to get organized or get a good start in the morning,

but rather because it's a way to self-soothe if you're feeling anxious and stressed,

especially if you're experiencing trauma.

And one of your fellow meditators reached out to let me know

that she lost five out of eleven members of her family recently.

This is a trauma.

So you might find that during these times your brain begins to respond in unusual ways.
