of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Berlin, to comment on elections in the European Union and across the continent.

Poland, we begin with, and we mention Netherlands, a pending election because the coalition

is broken.

Razor thin and deeply divided, writes the headline by Monica Seuss at the Carnegie

Europe, Strategic Europe site.

The election of populist Carol Novrovsky, as Poland's

president, poses challenges to the country's reform agenda and deeper EU integration, writes the copy.

Yet, the narrow result underscores that Poland still has a strong, resilient, pro-European Democratic Corps.

Judy, a very good day to you. You've educated me that the European Union has tensions that are

unpredictable, and this looks to be one of them. Poland having had Donald Tusk as a prime minister and a master of government, having defeated the far-right party that was in power many years, has now veered back towards the right side.

I'm told that the winner in a very close election is a man who has no previous experience as a politician. He's an historian,

good for him. But for some reason, the F.T. wanted me to know that he was an admirer of Donald Trump.

Is this something that Poland is expecting that they would go back and forth over the centre?

Is this a normal conduct for Poland?

I'm unfamiliar with their history.
