What I like to do is first lay down a kind of syncopated beat that isn't so much

about what it is altogether. It's more about the modulation and what it is

once it starts. It's a little bit of a groove more than it is a rock beat. I do a

flamm rest flamm rest flamm rest followed by sort of kind of an intricate

African thing on the low drums so it goes like so the pattern is you ride on

this tom here hopefully you've got the 17 toms and it goes something like this.
