Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness podcast. Today's topic is my favourite.

It is essentially why you don't want to be average. Now looking at stats can be pretty depressing

and make you feel like there's no point trying. So if you read up on like average results of people aging

or what happens on average as you age, it's pretty demotivating, right?

So the average woman puts on about five kilograms during menopause.

Most diets fail.

The vast majority of people that tried to diet actually regain the

weight and then put on more. Most people lose muscle as they age. And these stats are often used

as facts, right? You'll hear someone be like, there's no point dieting because diets fail. And look, here's the

evidence to support that. And it's hard to dispute because they're not technically wrong, right?

Most diets do fail. But you don't have to be most people. And what they're looking at there

is the averages. So most people, but not necessarily you, much like on average, people put on five kilograms during perimenopause. Doesn't have to be you. On average, most people lose muscle mass as they age. Again, that doesn't have to be you. And it annoys the hell out of me when people say these as facts because it's so demoralizing for people.

If you think that it is inevitable that you will put on weight as you age, then why would you even try to diet?

And then obviously it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy because you're like well

no point dieting because everyone puts on weight as they age and then shockingly because you do

nothing about it then yes you do put on weight as you age because we live in an abysenogenic

environment people tend to be less active as they age. Women especially go through

a lot as they age, which means that it's way more likely they're going to come to eat, it's

way more likely they're going to stop exercising consistently, and it's way more likely they're

going to put on body fat. But if you do something about it, it's certainly not an inevitability.
