this episode. Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness podcast. Today's topic is

willpower. And willpower is one of the most common reasons that people give for not being able to

stick to a diet or generally not reaching their goals. And over the next, however long this

episode takes me to record, I want to convince you that that is not the case. And this is really going to help you

reach your fat loss goals, all your goals and any other pursuit. So one brilliant example of this

that really stuck with me was from a talk that Ben and Sohee gave at IFS last year. And Ben showed a graph of obesity rates over time.

He pointed out this really quite sharp increase over the last 50 years or so.

And then he made the point that it's very unlikely that suddenly about 50 years ago,

everybody just suddenly lost their willpower and I love this point and it obviously really stuck with me because that was like almost a year ago now

and I just think it really nicely shows what a ridiculous notion that is that the reason that people don't get results is lack of willpower.

Like, did we just suddenly lose it? No. But then you've got to think, okay, what has changed over the

last 50 years or so? And that is our food environment, our food choices and how we live our lives.
