Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness Podcast. I have two guests on today. I have Dr. Hannah Richie. Hello, Hannah. How are you? Hello. Hello. I'm good. Thank you. I like how you always introduce me as doctor. I hate when people call me doctor. Do you know why I did that though? I'm sure I told you why I did that. My mum listened to something that you did on the radio and they were like, here's Dr. Paul McGath and here's Dr. So-and-so and here's Professor. And then they're like, and Hannah Ritchie had something to say. And she was just like, that's fucking sexism. Like, yeah. Dr. Hannah Ritchie. And we also have Dr. Amelia Thompson. Hi, I love

0:41.8

this one of the time. You can do it all the time. You're welcome. So today we want to talk about

0:46.6

values, which I think is a word that gets thrown around quite a lot without like much meaning or thought

0:52.4

behind it. Like, oh yeah, it it's my values much like kind of like

0:55.2

integrity etc etc so i thought amelia could start with defining what values are in a very simple

1:02.3

way oh i in my opinion values are values are things that are important to you that drive your actions and your goals and that's

1:15.7

as simplest as I can put it really yeah I would agree I think that a trap people fall into is

1:23.7

one not knowing their values and we'll come onto that but two even if they do know their values

1:30.0

not actioning them or like you're just saying like living in line with your values i think that's

1:36.1

something that even if you have potentially like quite good values there's often a disconnects

1:43.6

between your actions and your values and we judge people

1:47.2

based on their actions, thinking that their actions are in line with their values, because that's

1:51.3

really the only way you can judge someone. And that isn't always the case. That's something that I call

1:55.9

myself out on a lot. Like if someone is judging me, getting to know me, like not necessarily

2:00.6

judging in a bad way,

2:01.8

but how do I want to come across my actions are going to show that as opposed to they can't

2:06.4

see what my values are. I need to show them what my values are. Yeah, it took me a long time to

2:15.0

go through the value sitting exercise.

2:18.5

Like I think for a long time, I assumed, like, oh, I just know what my values are.

2:22.3

But I actually think going through the process of sitting down and actually

2:26.5

like picking out like not 10, but three, four, five values is so important.

2:32.5

And what I found, like, when it comes back to like what's driving
