Summary

In episode 28, Natalie talks about life plans, emotional availability, and why it's not fair when people shame us for not wanting to be friends or not being ready to move on just yet. This week's listener question is about boundaries and ultimatums and Natalie shares what she's learned this week about 'overreacting'. In the first part of the show, Natalie builds on episode 27 where she shared what she learned about her need for a life plan and explores why we might not have one and includes suggestions for increasing awareness of our priorities.

In the second part of the show, Natalie explains emotional unavailability and the key fears behind it as well as ten key questions for understanding your own availability. Download "10 Key Questions To Open Up Your Awareness About Your Emotional Availability" http://bit.ly/1pz2nv2

I'm Natalie Lou, a writer based in southeast London who is dedicated to helping people to improve their emotional and

0:24.4

relationship literacy. Let's kick this off. Last week in episode 27 I talked about

0:32.4

how I have been listening to a podcast where and the author Michael Hyatt had been talking about life plans and so much of what he said resonated with being quite a few lightballs

0:44.8

went off especially when he said no one ever drifted to a destination that they

0:49.7

wanted to go to and like a lot of my readers and listeners, I haven't actually been that crazy about having

0:56.4

like some big old big picture life plan. I think probably due to some childhood procrastination habits I've always maybe been a bit resistant to being like oh yeah like I'm going to go and I put down some big old plan about something because then it's like a big old commitment.

But I've realized that I'm actually at a stage in my life where I would like to make some very

1:17.1

very conscious decisions about what I want to do next that I might want to, I don't want to be in control, but I do want to kind of decide what path I want to steer myself on.

One of the things that was really, really pivotal in my own journey is that about I think it was about 11 or

1:36.1

about 11 years ago I decided to write my short medium and long term. And it was really the first time that I had ever done

1:45.9

something like that and I can't remember why I decided to do it. But what came out from doing

1:52.1

that exercise,

1:53.0

I wrote it all out, and actually I don't even know what I did with the list afterwards.

1:56.8

I think it turned up actually a few years ago,

1:58.3

and then I lost it again.

1:59.8

But what I wrote down on that list really stuck with me because aside from what mine

2:05.9

have been some tasks that were sort of lingering over is more that there were things on there

2:11.4

that really told me about my priorities.

2:14.8

And at the time I realized that I wasn't really living my life in a way that reflected things

2:18.7

that I had in mind for my life.
