Summary

This is probably what is holding you back from your goals.

Lack of commitment doesn't come from lack of discipline or motivation it usually comes from not truly believing you can achieve your goal.

You can't fully commit to something you don't believe in.

‘The 2% difference between 98% and 100% is the chance you give yourself to opt out’

If you are struggling to meet your goals invest 20mins and listen to this.

Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness podcast. Today I want to talk about very broadly why you might not be reaching your goals and what to do about it and how to use your mindset or to change your mindset in a way that's going to help you meet your goals.

That sounds, I should have come up with a snappier title, but you will see. I think this is going to

0:31.7

be really useful. It was actually really useful for me to write or to write notes on. So hopefully it's going to be very useful for you as well.

0:40.8

And I would like to start with a quote and I read this a couple of years ago and it resonated so

0:46.8

well with me and a few things just like clicked for me. So the quote is, the 2% difference between 98% and 100% is the chance you give yourself to opt out.

1:02.0

Like that just thinking, the 2% difference between 98% and 100% is the chance you give yourself to opt out.

1:13.7

And that massively clicked for me.

So the point here is not fully committing to something is legitimately exhausting because you are constantly questioning your decisions because you're making so many decisions a day and that will take

1:30.1

up a hell of a lot of headspace and it will burn you out whereas if you can commit a hundred percent

1:37.0

to something that means not giving yourself the option to quit or to change your mind you make that

1:43.8

decision once and you

1:45.7

stick to it. And it's the back and force between will I do this or will I not do this? Do I think

1:51.9

I can actually do this? I could do something slightly different. Shall I change my goal? That,

1:57.3

that is what's tiring. And that's what will burn you out and that's what will stop you meeting your goals.

2:03.3

If you commit 100%, then sticking to your plan for the day is one decision.

2:12.0

Like sticking to your meals that day, your workout that day, your steps that day, that's one decision because you've made a plan

2:19.0

and then you implement the plan. If you're only committing 98%, then you will constantly question

2:28.4

your decisions throughout the day. This means that it could be hundreds of decisions a day.

2:34.7

Will I eat this now or will I eat it later?

2:37.3

Shall I have this?

2:38.2

Shall I have that option?

2:40.9

In fact, it's one of the biggest problems with flexible dieting that I see.
