Hello, why do I always do that? Hello and welcome to this episode of the ESG Fitness

0:06.9

Podcast. I hope everyone is very well. I spoke last week about perfectionism and procrastination.

0:17.2

And that episode got a lot of love and it seemed to resonate with a lot of people so thank you

0:22.3

very much for that and I'm glad it was useful in a useful way to think through how you think

0:28.0

about certain things what I want to talk about today is that that isn't always how perfectionism

0:34.5

manifests it sometimes isn't so much that it holds you back, but that it

0:40.7

stops you enjoying the outcome because you're always picking that outcome apart. So, for example,

0:48.2

does this situation or this sort of thought process sound like you? Would you do something and then if it goes well, immediately move the goalposts?

1:30.5

but now as soon as I get anywhere near that, I immediately move the goalpost so that I don't celebrate

1:35.1

that success. I just move to the next thing. It's a way of never allowing yourself to be good enough.

1:45.1

Or you do appreciate being able to earn X amount, for example,

1:51.2

but you attribute that to luck, or you attribute the success to luck as opposed to your hard work

1:58.6

or your effort.

2:00.6

And yet, if it didn't go well, that's when

2:05.4

you choose to internalise it. So basically, if it does go well, it must be due to something else

2:10.8

that's complete luck. But if it doesn't go well, that's on you. That's 100% your fault. So if you do

2:17.3

really well on a test and you get an A plus,

2:20.3

you attribute that success to the luck of those questions coming up. Like it definitely wasn't the hours of
