Hello and welcome to this podcast on metabolic health generally, which is one of my favourite topics.

And for those of you who don't know, probably most people, that is the area that I used to work in and find just so fascinating.

I think sometimes we just paint it with the brush of, oh, it's nice because it makes you

of having muscle mass for health is incredible and hopefully by the end of this podcast you will also know

that and you will be very excited by it as well okay so i'm going to focus primarily on metabolic health and risk of type 2 diabetes

as that's my area of interest, that's what I know. But there are many, many weights that muscle is

important to health. And I'm also going to focus on physical health, but there are obviously

huge benefits to your psychological health and even just

generally your mood. So I'm going to start by really driving this message home with quite an

extreme. So it can be argued with good evidence that the depletion of muscle mass is the cause of death in human starvation.

And that is because we go back and sort of look at protein and protein's role in the body.

Protein is constantly required. There is a reason why we prioritize it in our diets.

And it's partly because of the way it's stored within the body. So I'm... there is a reason why we prioritize it in our diets.

So unlike fats and carbs, protein isn't stored for later use in the same way.
