Summary

This week, Jenni is joined by British runner Eilish McColgan. Only a decade ago, Eilish was a student living it up at university: Late nights and a typical student lifestyle are not what you’d expect from one of Team GBs elite runners but Eilish didn’t yet realise that was her true calling. One day she decided to switch things up and only a year later found herself competing at London 2012. In this episode of RunPod, Eilish and Jenni discuss the commitment required to be at the top and what it’s like to follow in her mum, Liz McColgan’s footsteps. Also since Eilish is known for running the 5000m, she has plenty of tips for us to improve our own 5k time. A great insight to life as an elite but ultimately we all have one thing in common, and that is an appreciation for the joy of running.

I just want to let everyone know that you are the busiest woman in the world. You're never really

0:51.6

in the same place for very long. Where are you now?

0:58.8

We're actually currently in Fontremont-Ré, France. So yeah, it's been a little bit hectic the last couple of weeks. But I suppose just, yeah, with everyone's life in COVID

1:04.1

right now, plans are just irrelevant, unfortunately. Yeah. I know. I mean, I know it's been a busy month. Tell me what you've been up to.

1:14.5

I suppose it's just been a bit of a strange year. I think the original schedule that we had has just

1:19.5

completely disappeared and all the races that I was really aiming for this year have all been

1:25.0

cancelled. So it's been, of course, a little bit frustrating, but there's obviously such a safety and health

1:33.3

of everyone as Parliament right now.

1:36.4

But thankfully, there has been a few track races that have opened up.

1:39.7

It just so happens that the distance is far shorter than the ones I'd been preparing for, unfortunately.

1:46.6

So I've just sort of thrown myself in at the deep side and just taking the opportunities as

1:50.8

they've come along, which means that, yeah, it's been a little bit of on the bounce racing

1:56.8

from country to country and just taking the opportunities that have arisen. So,, we just came from, I had a race in Marseille last Thursday, straight to Poland
