We're wondering what led you to write this book.

I did not intend to start out with a book. So this was an essay that I wrote for a writing contest

called the Bracken Bauer Prize. It's put on by the Financial Times and McKinsey and Company.

And the reason I wrote that essay was, you know, I was at a pretty low place in my career and writing has always been really important to me. And there was, I just had the sense that I needed to get back to

myself. And so I needed to get back into my hobbies. I was really burned out. So I just started

writing. Didn't matter what I was going to write. Fortunately, that essay did well enough to get me

shortlisted for that prize. And from there on, the piece is kind of fell in place

for me to be able to write this book. But I think broadly what I'm trying to do with it is to say,

you know, I've got a lot of time left in my career in corporate conversation. And I can't imagine

doing it the same way for the next 20 odd years because I think there's some fundamental things

to shift because we are not serving our employees very well at the current moment. Let's go back to basics.
