What if you’re not lazy…
What if you’re just tired?

In this episode of Dad Tired Daily, Jerrad talks about why rest isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom. Drawing from military training, Scripture, and real life as a husband and dad, he unpacks why exhaustion quietly undermines our leadership at home and how learning to rest can actually protect the mission God has given us.

You’ll hear:

  • Why elite military teams train themselves to rest under pressure
  • How exhaustion impacts your decisions, presence, and relationships
  • Why Jesus prioritizes rest for weary men
  • A simple, practical “micro-Sabbath” you can practice anywhere, anytime

This isn’t about doing less because you don’t care.
It’s about resting on purpose so you can lead well.

Key Scripture:
Matthew 11:28 — “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Simple Practice:
Take one minute today. Feet on the ground. Slow inhale. Longer exhale. Ask God for rest—not more answers.

Rested men lead their families well.

But we know that if you are too exhausted, if you get overly exhausted, you start to get sloppy.

And when you're sloppy and you're tired, you make bad decisions, and everyone

around you can be affected, and the mission at large can be affected.

And I was thinking, man, if it's important for those guys to learn, it probably is also important

for us as men trying to live on mission to be the husband's, disciples, fathers, men of

God that we're trying to be, to also not be exhausted and learn how to

train ourselves to rest. I think a lot of guys feel like maybe you're lazy or you're just

unmotivated. And sometimes, dude, you're just really tired. And we live in a culture where it's like,

1:25.9

you're not supposed to say that. If you feel really tired or you feel exhausted, you just keep grinding. That's like the man thing to do. Just keep grinding. And so maybe you feel like you're not accomplishing enough or your life's not in order. So it's like, all right, what books do I need to read? I need to listen to this podcast today. And I need to accomplish these 10 things. And I resonate with all that deeply. That's actually

my personality. I feel better about myself when I accomplish more stuff. And so sometimes it's hard

1:50.9

for us as men to slow down and feel like the greatest thing I can actually accomplish today is to rest.

The greatest gift I can actually give my wife and my kids and the people around me today
