| 0:32.0 | There is something that has been on my mind and it comes up so often when I work with clients who are frustrated. |
| 0:39.0 | When I work with clients who have big goals, but they're really struggling to execute. |
| 0:45.0 | They're they're feeling disappointed because they're letting themselves down, setting these complex frameworks and then struggling to execute. |
| 0:53.0 | And what I tell them is that the more rules you establish, generally the less likely you are to follow them. |
| 1:01.0 | And it's not to say that we should just fly by the seat of our pants because I do believe that discipline is freedom, but there's a lot to be said for simplicity. |
| 1:10.0 | The other thing about rules is that sometimes for some of us, and I consider myself part of this group, it can evoke this feeling of resistance and rebellion. |
| 1:20.0 | The inner toddler tries to say, oh yeah, you tell me I have to do it. We'll watch this. I'm not going to so I tend to prefer standards. |
| 1:30.0 | For example, I have a standard that just helps me avoid the very familiar feeling of regret or disappointment that if I'm going to have alcohol, I don't have sugar. |
| 1:41.0 | And if I'm going to have sugar like dessert cookies cake, I don't drink. That is a standard. |
| 1:46.0 | It does not mean that 1,000% of the time I execute that there are certainly circumstances where I have both, but on the whole that is my standard. |
| 1:55.0 | I do not have a ton of food rules. I have a very small number of standards. And by having this small number of standards like breakfast is always a fat loss meal, it doesn't matter if we're on vacation or anything like that, it is a fat loss friendly meal. |
| 2:09.0 | When we have fewer standards or rules or guidelines, whatever you want to call them, it is easier to focus. And when it's easier to focus, it's easier to execute. |
| 2:21.0 | The more rules that you establish, generally speaking, the less likely you are to follow them. And I think this is true with our kids too. |
| 2:30.0 | A lot of the times it comes down to our mental bandwidth, it's hard to keep them all in the forefront of our mind to be able to execute. |
| 2:37.0 | So consider this a reminder to keep it very simple. If you don't have any standards around your primary area of goals or what you're working toward, create a single standard. |
