series. I was messaging with a client just yesterday. And she was sharing with me

that after a bad day of work, she just wants to soothe herself with food. And she

doesn't want to work out. She just wants to escape and numb with food. And I

told her, you're talking yourself into that. You're talking yourself into that.

There is much more to the story. You're just leaving it out. And for as long as

you leave it out, you're going to make the choices that you're hoping you

change. But you can't change them with that story. I remind myself that

discipline comes from remembering what you really want. Sure, in the moment,

you can talk yourself into the fact that food would be a great escape. But that's

not the only thing that you want, even if it's the only thing you're focusing

on. Discipline requires that we remind ourselves what we really want. You also

want to break this pattern. You also want to reach your goals. You also don't

want to wake up every morning feeling like you blew it again last night. You

overdid it. Now you're more tired. Now you feel bloated. Now you're more

lethargic. Now you have more cravings. Are you in a practice of reminding

yourself what you really want? It's so easy to talk ourselves into what we want

in a moment. And that is real and that is valid. And I'm not suggesting that

those aren't true feelings. They are. They're just not the only true feelings.
