Summary

This episode is brought to you by Sendlane.

Michael says, "We also have a nutritionist, a formula, a flavorist on staff that most brands don't have. And then the next layer is we get to manufacture the product. We control that process, so we have disclosure, we have control into all of that. There's no middleman. That allows us to make the top of the line product with no middleman, no surcharge, no upcharge. We're offering premium formulas, incredible flavors and experiences for market price."

Today, we interview Michael Yewdell, President of BEAM - Be Amazing. BEAM's mission is to create superior supplement products. How do they guarantee this? By controlling the entire process. From sourcing and importing the raw ingredients, to an in-house flavor team, down to the manufacturing and production of the final product. They do it all.

We discussed:

* What he's grateful for
* His personal story, his diagnosis & fight with cancer
* What keeps him going every day
* How cancer changed his life and fueled his mission and products with BEAM
* How the owning the entire manufacturing process gives them an edge
* A review of new products and customer feedback
* Their philanthropic initiatives including raising money for cancer research and funding 500 plus hours of therapy
* And more…

And the first is understanding that the figurative gun was pointed at me.

0:08.0

I didn't make a bad decision.

0:10.0

I didn't eat a bad apple.

I didn't do anything.

So I'm in a corner right now with this figurative gun pointing right at me.

0:17.0

And I have two decisions.

0:19.0

I could let someone pull the trigger and give up and just

0:22.1

end this thing called life. Or I could fight like hell to save my life and to give myself a quality

0:27.1

of life. And I think that in conjunction with the fact that, hey, everybody knows somebody who's

0:34.5

battled. Everybody has adversity in their life. And like you said,

0:39.2

it's subjective to what's better or worse. So I always believe that, hey, somebody has it

0:44.4

out there worse. And for me personally, a couple of my good friends at this point in my life

0:49.8

were not there with me. They lost their lives to whatever reason. And I thought to myself, I said,

0:56.3

I got 27 great years. And every day I get beyond that is one more day than that person got.

1:02.4

So what am I going to do with my extra day? And I don't know when that day is going to be its last

1:08.3

day. And I think that being 27 years old and healthy, you have all of this

1:13.5

future ahead of you. And 27 years old and sick, you have your present and you're only in that

1:19.6

present. And I think that was the best gift that I ever got because I get to live every moment by the

1:26.4

moment versus looking down the line and looking

1:28.9

down the future.

1:29.8

I got to experience 24 hours of the day.
