Summary

Bestie, are you toxic?

In this episode, we take on the role of becoming self-accountable queens and really look at who we show up as in this world while also deciding who we want to work to become. I love this episode because when we hold ourselves accountable for our actions, it becomes easier to recognize the qualities in the people in our lives and to hold them accountable too.

Hi, besties and welcome back to the sad to savage podcast. I'm your host, Shelby Sacco, and today

0:05.8

we're going to discuss the topic of being toxic. I teach habits and routines and you might be thinking,

0:10.5

okay, like how did the two tie? Well, I personally believe. I love saying I personally believe. I feel like

0:15.5

it's a pageant answer and I'm a little patch and girly, but I do personally believe that being toxic comes from a lack of self-awareness

0:21.5

and a lack of understanding who and what you want to be. I also think that sometimes we stay in toxic

0:25.9

friendships and toxic relationships because we either are not aware that they're toxic or we feel

0:30.2

stuck. We don't know what to do. We don't know how to get out of them. And our habits, routines,

0:33.4

and ways of thinking, those actually have a lot to do with this, like why we stay or why we think a certain way. The more you become self-aware and hold yourself accountable, because we love

0:40.9

little self-accountability queen, the more you hold yourself accountable for your actions,

0:45.0

the easier it's going to become to actually recognize the qualities in other people in your life

0:49.0

and hold them accountable too. So essentially throughout this episode, I don't know why I said so like that, but

0:54.5

throughout this episode, I'm going to ask y'all to stop and really look at yourselves. I'm asking you to do this

0:59.4

without judging or shaming yourselves. I read a book on shame by Brennan Brown. Brenne Brown.

1:04.1

What was that book? Oh, Daring Greatly. It was amazing. If you struggle with shame, I highly recommend it. But I read a book on it and it was like, shame is the root cause of so many problems why we can't change, why we can't grow, because we won't look at those parts of us. And I don't think it should be like that. I want you guys to stop and look at those parts of yourself. My entire episode is more about just becoming aware so that you can change. It's really hard to change and grow when you bury yourself with shame. One of my favorite quotes ever is that you cannot change anything that you're not conscious or aware of.

1:32.0

I actually want to get that tattooed in my body. I have so many quotes when to get tattooed in my body,

1:35.5

but I have a needle fear. The more you become aware, the more you create space in your brain

1:41.2

to actually choose who and what you want to be and who and what you want to

1:44.8

surround yourself with. In the book, The Power of One More by Edmila, I actually really recommend

1:49.0

that book. It is amazing. It talks about, and I'm blanking right now, this is why I have to write

1:53.7

everything down. But it talks about basically when you start becoming aware, like if someone were to say,

1:58.3

there are so many red cars in the world, like red's most popular car color, the more that you hear that, the more that you start looking on the streets

2:04.2

for red cars to prove it right. Your brain is like looking for those moments. The more that you start
