| 0:00.0 | Welcome to episode 3, 2017 of the Daily Meditation Podcast. I'm Mary Meckley and I'm honored to share |
| 0:11.2 | with you this week's breathing technique. Now this is a week where you are |
| 0:17.2 | setting yourself up for the whole year as you launch into a new year and you are guided in a New Year's Eve |
| 0:26.8 | closure meditation and then you are guided in a New Year's Day meditation to usher in the new year. |
| 0:35.9 | And as you did so, you focused on three things. |
| 0:40.4 | These are three things that are part of your challenge this week. |
| 0:44.0 | So every week we have a theme and you also have a challenge that helps to bring you a little more deeply into the theme and you can have a little more fun with the theme this way. |
| 0:59.0 | Meditation can become a little heavy because it's introspective and it doesn't need to be that way. So have fun with your meditation ritual. |
| 1:08.0 | So these are your three challenges this week. There are three. One is to choose a word that will |
| 1:17.8 | help to define your year. What do you want to feel this year? What kind of year do you want to have? |
| 1:25.0 | Maybe you want to focus on peace this year. |
| 1:29.0 | Maybe for you, you want to feel limitless. So you want to focus on all kinds of different goals that |
| 1:38.1 | you have always wanted to pursue whatever it, come up with one word to represent your year. The second part of |
| 1:47.6 | this challenge is to think of a symbol or a totem that you could carry with you along this journey. |
| 1:58.0 | Now this could be something that you place in your meditation space or in your |
| 2:05.0 | office, in your office, or somewhere where you're likely to see it. |
| 2:06.0 | You might even place it in a prominent location in your home. |
| 2:10.0 | It could be a photo, it could be a painting. It could be some kind of funny symbol that is like an |
| 2:19.8 | alter ego for you. My symbol is a Phoenix and I happen to have an amazing carving of a |
| 2:28.1 | Phoenix on a screen and it's very old it's at least 150 years old and I have this hanging |
| 2:39.7 | right above my bed so it's in a really prominent location and it reminds me that I can rise |
| 2:46.5 | up above anything I encounter. So for you, think of a totem that you might have. |
