Hello, my name is John Rook, I'm a writer, producer, host, and voice

of artist here in San Diego, California.

And in our last film, yesterday, brief encounter,

we talked about the societal expectations

that made it impossible for these people to be together.

And now we're moving into another film

where again there are societal expectations

which force them the couple that is very much in love to make some decisions that are

very painful and that of course is our discussion of Bird Cage with our very special guest

Michael Vogel. Yeah this is one of those films that I remember seeing it for the first

time in the 90s and just absolutely loving it and loving that it was so open in its portrayal of a

homosexual relationship at a time when that was still somewhat new and

somewhat vilified and people had issues with it and to see it displayed in such a way I thought worked so well and the wonderful performances of

Robin Williams and Nathan Lane and

Edgine Hackman and Diane Weist and Kalista Flochart and Hank Azaria.

Just all of it brought so much life in the direction of Mike Nichols, under the direction of Mike Nichols,

who understood how to bring out the comedy, but also made this universal. It's a it's a deceptively brilliant

film about how we know this phrase nowadays, love is love. And this is what was so great to

see in this movie.

And look, nothing's going to beat that scene at the bus stop between Nathan Lane and Robin Williams
