0:22.2	co-founder, president, and CEO of Three Strands Global, an organization whose mission is to mobilize
0:27.7	communities to combat human trafficking through prevention, education, and reintegration
0:32.6	programs. Ashley, thank you so much for taking the time to sit down with us today. To start, I'd love to
0:39.0	have you tell us how Three Strands Global began and where the name comes from. That's a great
0:43.8	question. I love telling the story. So Three Strand's Global Foundation, there are three initiatives
0:49.0	that we focus in on. There is prevention education, employment, and engagement. So a court of three strands is not easily broken.
0:56.3	And when we think about our mission, we really believe that prevention changes everything.
1:00.9	Really, at three strands, it's how do we envision a world free from human trafficking?
1:05.9	And that all began in 2010.
1:08.2	In 2008, my good friend's daughter was hanging out in a parking lot with her 17-year-old
1:12.7	friends, and they were befriended by a really attractive young man who's probably in his early
1:18.3	20s, and he was a trafficker, and they didn't know it. And this 20 or 30 group of high school
1:23.8	kids socialized and interacted with him, And he figured out who's most vulnerable
1:28.8	in the crowd. And unfortunately, my friend's daughter was most vulnerable. And so he offered to take a
1:33.9	whole huge group of them home, and he took a lot of the kids home, but didn't take my friend's
1:38.5	daughter home. He actually took her back to his parents' house, and then he sold her on Craigslist
1:43.2	to trafficker in the Bay Area,
1:45.4	where she was trafficked 15 to 20 times a day, sold for sex, before she was recovered by the FBI
1:52.1	and the county sheriff. So that really just motivated us to be able to help others understand,
