In today's episode I'm going to give some advice to a young man in his early 20s who

emailed me to get some advice about his very recent breakup and it's left him feeling really

lost and confused. So let's just get right into it. He wrote, I just recently

started listening to your podcast and it has seriously helped me open my eyes and helped me

through when I hit rock bottom. I've known this girl for about eight years and we've been dating for five years. She recently just left me. She started to become distant about a month back, but she said she was studying for finals because this is her last year of school and she really needed to focus so I gave her some space to concentrate.

So for about three or four days I was at rock bottom thinking about what I could do to fix the problem.

But she didn't talk to me to clarify anything, so I just decided to drink because that was the only way that I could fall asleep.

Just a couple of days ago, my friend told me that my girlfriend talked to him about why she left and she said she left because she has no idea

what it's like to have the freedom of being single. But the funny thing was is that she never needed to ask permission to go anywhere or to hang out with her friends.

I always said, if you want to hang out with your friends, go ahead.
