So there's really been no mystery about what film John and I are digging into this week.

We've actually known we were doing the Godfather for almost a year,

and we even announced it in a live stream way back in September. It and its sequel are not only among our most requested

films, but they are without question two of the most important movies in the history of cinema. The 70s was a tremendous decade

for film and perhaps no director exemplifies that decade its passion, artistry,

madness, and excess more than Francis Ford Coppola.

In a way, Coppola is the godfather of an entire generation of filmmakers, and this film,

based on the Mario Pouso bestseller, manages to be at once personal

and grand, a window into an experience which is both uniquely Italian and quintessentially American.

It brings together the great actor of the previous age, Marlon Brando, with some of the

greatest actors of the next, Pacino Duvalval, James Kahn, and of course John Casale.

Listed as number two on the latest AFI 100.

The Godfather fundamentally changed not only gangster films, but the art of filmmaking itself.
