Hi, this is Steve. For Francis Ford Coppola, every day of the Godfather was a battle.

He battled for his cast, his budget, and his script.

It was a fight to make sure the film was set in the proper time and place rather than in modern day Kansas City

And things if anything got worse when he started shooting with spies on the set and studio penny pinchers questioning every one of his decisions.

The fact is that after less than a week, the studio was ready to fire Francis Ford Coppola,

and he knew it, but that only made him fight harder. He fired the

spies he re-shot the first scene with Brando and perhaps most importantly he

adjusted the schedule so he could shoot the film's pivotal scene right away.

And it was only after seeing that footage that Bob Evans and the Brass at Paramount realized

that this crazy young director might be on to something very special after all.
