It's at times like these that we look to films that help us see the best parts of humanity.

Films where sincerity triumphs over cynicism, kindness and generosity over cruelty and greed.

And more than that, I think all of us right now could use generosity over cruelty and greed.

And more than that, I think all of us right now could use a really big laugh.

Well, John and I can't think of any film that fits that description better than the 2003 holiday classic Elf directed by

John Favreau and starring James Kahn Zoe Deschenel Mary Steam Virgin and of

of course Will Farrell in one of the performances that made him a star.

Now this is a lovely movie and one that is just as funny and heartwarming today

as it was when it came out 17 years ago.
