Summary

This week I spoke with Jeremy Gilbert. Jeremy is a Professor of Cultural and Political Theory at the University of East London. He is author of Twenty-First Century Socialism, and his latest book Hegemony Now: How Big Tech and Wall Street Won the World is out next year. As a big fan of the late Mark Fisher’s work, particularly his book Capitalist Realism (for which I did the audiobook recording), I was intrigued to learn that Mark and Jeremy were associates. And I felt very compelled to speak to Jeremy about his work and outlook on politics. This episode is a very down-to-earth, realistic and in-depth discussion about the work of the left wing in politics. What does the left stand for? What are they doing right now? Is it working? What needs to happen next?
