I'm pulling on my driveway. We all know what that means. It's time to

0:04.4

drive to work. So today is another part in my history of design series. So last

0:13.9

we talked, what did we last we talked? Last we talked about Zendikar and we are moving into scars of Mirrodin.

0:26.6

Okay, so Miriden was the first sort of new world or, you know, non-dominarian world that we decided to return to.

0:37.2

So the origin of this is Brady Dommermouth and I were huge fans of the Phrexians.

0:44.3

And so we made original Meredin.

0:47.3

We planted the seeds for the return of the Frexians.

0:50.3

For those that don't remember, in the invasion, in the weather-like

0:55.5

saga, which ends in invasion, Erzo wipes out all the Frexians. The entire Frexian threat is gone,

1:03.6

is purged from the multiverse. But they were too good a villain to keep down. So we created a story,

1:10.2

and the idea is Karn, when he lost his spark, got infected by some Frexian oil.

1:17.8

When he ends up making Mirrodin, he unwittingly brings it there.

1:22.5

In the book on Miriden, we see the main bad guy, like in the first few pages, find this oil

1:27.3

and it goes

1:27.7

into his skin, and then we don't talk about it again, right? It's like very subtle. But the idea

1:33.9

was, the original idea for this block was that it was going to be new phrexia, and we were going

1:40.1

to spend a whole block in new phrexia, only at the end i'm inspired by like the end of

1:45.8

planet of the apes i don't want to spoil a movie that came out in the 60s but uh in planet of the apes

1:50.9

uh you find that there's an after not played by charleston he crashes on an alien planet filled with

1:57.5

where apes are the supreme form and humans are mere like, you know, slaves of the apes.

2:03.8

But he finds out of the end that he hasn't changed planets, but he's gone through time.

2:07.9

He's on Earth!
