Overview

True crime is often sensationalized — but behind every headline is a real person with a real story. Survivor Squad creates a space where survivors share, in their own words, what really happened to them. In each episode, true crime survivors interview other survivors to go beyond the headlines and get to know the person behind the story. This is a show committed to ethical true crime — centering survivors, honoring their voices, and making the true crime space better for those who've lived it. Welcome to The Survivor Squad! Part 2: The iCloud Hack of 2014 w/ Uldouz Wallace

This is Part 2 of our two-part interview with Uldouz Wallace. Uldouz Wallace is a survivor of the 2014 iCloud Hack/Leak; her private images and a video were hacked by a predator who later auctioned & leaked them to the internet, which later was shared on all the adult sites without her consent and ultimately taking away her fundamental human rights. This horrifying set of events destroyed her bright future of success. Through experience, Uldouz realized the imbalance between technology and the current laws and how they need to be updated to protect the future of children, women & men. That’s when she decided to change the law; she contacted several senators and nonprofit organizations and created The Protect Act Bill, which Senator Mike Lee introduced. She testified at Capitol Hill and is currently an Advisor for the White House Task Force regarding Image-Based Sexual Abuse. She also started her nonprofit 501(c)3 Foundation Ra and the movement #protectmyimage to help victims of image & video-based abuse with resources like free takedown services, therapy, law enforcement, lawyers, and to know your rights, and more. Part 2: Hugh Hefner w/ Crystal Hefner

This is part two of our two-part interview with Crystal Hefner. At just twenty-one years old, Crystal Harris’ life changed forever when she attended a party at the notorious Playboy mansion. Picked out of the crowd by Hugh Hefner, she became one of his infamous “girlfriends,” attending glamorous Hollywood parties and traveling the world. Yet this seemingly alluring lifestyle had a dark side. Hef controlled his girlfriends with strict rules regarding everything from their hair and makeup to their curfews, and Crystal was forced to compete with other women for her spot in the highly hierarchical system. Living at the mansion, she felt more like a fixture than a resident. She quickly rose to the top, but being Hef’s number-one girlfriend came at the cost of Crystal’s identity outside her role in the Playboy universe. Her fate seemed sealed when Hef surprised her with a marriage proposal she could not imagine refusing. But as Crystal Hefner, she grew increasingly restless to understand who she truly was away from what she saw as Playboy’s toxic culture. In her new book ONLY SAY GOOD THINGS, Crystal offers a vulnerable and clear-eyed look at how her experience with Hugh Hefner catalyzed her transformative journey from someone who prized external validation over all else to a person who finally recognizes her true worth. This candid memoir provides a fascinating look behind the scenes at a powerful cultural icon and brand and an equally empowering perspective on hard-won lessons about who we allow to determine our value. Part 2: Stalked by Jeffery w/ Anna Nasset

This episode is sponsored by BetterHelp. Give online therapy a try at https://www.betterhelp.com/SURVIVOR, and get on your way to being your best self. This is Part Two of our two-part interview with Anna Nasset. Anna Nasset, a victim/survivor of stalking for the last decade, has firsthand experience with how to identify and respond to stalking, which has led her to become an international speaker on the subject. She has trained thousands of professionals, students, and military members on the importance of recognizing stalking, getting help, and advocating for oneself and others. Anna is one of the very few people who can speak openly about her experience after the man who stalked her received the maximum sentence for aggravated felony stalking-ten years in prison-in 2019. This is one of the longest-known sentences for this crime in U.S. history. As an activist and the owner of Stand Up Resources, Anna works with law enforcement, victim service agencies, universities, and other organizations to be part of the solution. We encourage you to post photos of you and/or your team sparkling against stalking! Amanda Knox is an exoneree, journalist, public speaker, and author of the New York Times best-selling memoir, Waiting to Be Heard (HarperCollins, April 2013). Between 2007 and 2015, she spent nearly four years in an Italian prison and eight years on trial for a murder she didn't commit. The controversy over Amanda's case made international headlines for nearly a decade and thrust her into the spotlight, where she was vilified and shamed. Amanda now works to shed light on the issues of wrongful conviction, truth-seeking, and public shaming. Her essays and journalism have been published in USA Today, the L.A. Times, the Seattle Times, Seattle Magazine, BROADLY, and the West Seattle Herald. She is the host, writer, and producer of The Scarlet Letter Reports (2018), a VICE and Facebook Watch series in which she interviews other women who, like her, have been objectified and villainized by the media. Part 2: Surviving a Serial Killer w/ Jane Boroski

** For Ad-Free Episodes, Join Our Patreon! ** https://www.patreon.com/thesurvivorsquad This is part two of a two-part interview with Jane Boroski. In August 1988, 22-year-old Jane Boroski was seven months pregnant and thirsty after spending hours in the summer heat at the county fair near Swanzey, New Hampshire. She pulled over in an empty parking lot to slip some pocket change into a vending machine outside a convenience store that had closed for the night. She was then attacked, being stabbed 27 times by the Connecticut River Valley serial killer. She ultimately survived the attack along with her then-unborn child. The Connecticut River Valley Killer was never brought to justice, and she may have also been his final victim. Boroski now has a podcast called "Invisible Tears" and is actively advocating for justice for her fellow Connecticut River Valley victims and the families in other unsolved cases across the state. Jane also recounts her harrowing story on the newly released Dark Valley podcast. Dark Valley podcast: linktr.ee/darkvalleyshow.
