Lost Hunter: Ronald Gray's disappearance in Idaho's Bitterroot Wilderness

On September 19, 2008, Ronald Scott Gray, a seasoned 62-year-old retired Marine and Massachusetts State Police captain, vanished during an elk hunt in Idaho’s rugged Selway-Bitterroot wilderness. Despite extensive survival training, he disappeared without a trace. His backpack, found near Highline Lake, provided no definitive clues. Unusual behavior noted by companions hinted at possible disorientation or psychological factors. Harsh weather and challenging terrain complicated the intensive search.  His mysterious disappearance remains unsolved, highlighting how even the most experienced outdoorsman can become lost in vast, unforgiving wilderness.   Note: Mike is recovering from a serious illness and had some issues with his voice this episode.  We apologize for the listening inconvenience and hope for his speedy recovery by next episode!    Learn more about Locations Unknown: https://linktr.ee/LocationsUnknown Check out our other shows on the Unknown Media Network: Crime Off The Grid Off The Trails The Peanut Butter and Mountains Podcast The Weirdos We Know   Who Runs This Park New Patreon Shoutouts: Jamie Drexler, Amelia Haverkamp, Carrie Tajc Want to help the show out and get even more Locations Unknown content!  For as little as $5 a month, you can become a Patron of Locations Unknown and get access to our episodes early, special members only episode, free swag, swag contests, and discounts to our Locations Unknown Store!  Become a Patron of the Locations Unknown Podcast by visiting our Patreon page.  (https://www.patreon.com/locationsunknown)   All our Patreon only content (Audio & Video) can now be accessed via Spotify.  (Active subscription to our Patreon channel is required.) -- Locations Unknown Subscriber Only Show | Podcast on Spotify   Want to call into the show and leave us a message?  Now you can!  Call 208-391-6913 and leave Locations Unknown a voice message and we may air it on a future message!  View live recordings of the show on our YouTube channel: Locations Unknown - YouTube Presented by Unknown Media Group. Ghosts of the Arctic - The Haunting Mystery of Franklin's Lost Expedition

In 1845, Sir John Franklin led 129 men on HMS Erebus and HMS Terror into the Arctic, vanishing without a trace and sparking one of history’s most haunting mysteries. This Halloween, we explore the eerie legacy of the Franklin Expedition: ghostly sightings around the shipwrecks, chilling whispers near graves on Beechey Island, and cursed artifacts that bring misfortune to those who dare disturb them. Was it lead poisoning, starvation, or something supernatural that doomed the crew? Join us as we dive into the deep end of the Arctic’s frozen secrets and uncover what happened to Sir John Franklins Northwest passage expedition. Correction 1: During the episode we incorrectly stated actor Alfred Molina (Doctor Octopus in the Spider Man movie) played Sir John Franklin in the AMC show The Terror.  The actor who played Franklin was actually Ciaran Hinds.  Thank you to listener Lara Mangieri for pointing this out!  You're correct, they do look similar.  Correction 2: Joe mixed up Vitamin C and D by stating you get Vitamin C by sunlight.  Vitamin C is acquired by the food you eat and Vitamin D is made by your body when exposed to sunlight.   Correction 3: Mike mispoke a couple of times during the timeline segment and referred to the Back River as the Black River.   Learn more about Locations Unknown: https://linktr.ee/LocationsUnknown Learn about other shows in the Unknown Media Group network: The Weirdos We Know & Off The Trails! Veteran Park Ranger Vanishes in Chiricahua National Monument

On a quiet afternoon in January 1980, veteran park ranger Paul Fugate set out on a routine patrol in Arizona's Chiricahua National Monument, promising to return shortly.  He was never seen again.  Despite extensive searches, not a single trace of him was found. Was it a tragic accident in the rugged wilderness, or did something more sinister happen?  Join us as we revisit the mysterious disappearance of Paul Fugate.  (Episode 114) We first covered this case back on December 1, 2018.  At that time, no other podcasts had covered Paul's case and very few shows were even focusing on wilderness disappearances.  Since then, the wilderness disappearances sub-genre has exploded with amazing shows like Park Predators & National Park After Dark.  With our 6 year anniversary coming up fast, we thought it would be fun to redo our first episode from the ground up, so we ditched the original show notes and came into the case fresh, with new perspectives on what might have happened.  Hope you enjoy the episode and let us know how EP 114 compares with EP1!  We can't thank you enough for sticking with us for 6 years and we're looking forward to many more years to come! Ghost Hunting at Chernobyl w/ Extreme Filmmaker Evan B. Stone

For our 100th episode, Extreme Filmmaker and Co-host of the show SVC Explorers of the Unknown Evan B Stone, is back to tell us about his Ghost Hunting trip to Chernobyl for Syfy Channel's Destination Truth.    In 2009, Evan B. Stone, Josh Gates, and their team conducted the first ever paranormal investigation at the site of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.  He goes into all the spooky, behind-the-scenes details on the trip and shares some amazing photographs he took.  Later in the episode, he talks with us about his latest show, SVC Explorers of the Unknown, where he and renowned paranormal investigator Jack Vaisey try to uncover the truth behind paranormal, cryptid, and UFO investigations.  We end the episode talking with Evan about his time as a filmmaker working for MTV, at the height of its popularity in the early to mid 90's, where he met almost every popular musician of the decade!  (Video of this episode will be available on our YouTube channel within 24 hours)    It's been a 5+ year journey to get to this point and we can't thank you enough for sticking with us throughout all our mispronunciations and grizzly bear controversies!
