RABBIT RABBIT

The tradition of saying "Rabbit, Rabbit" (or "White Rabbits") on the first day of the month is a long-held superstition intended to ensure good luck for the next 30 days. While its exact origins are "fuzzy" and likely rooted in ancient folklore, the practice has several documented historical milestones: Earliest Recorded Origins 1909 (First Written Mention): The earliest known written record of this superstition appears in the British journal Notes and Queries. A contributor noted that his daughters had a habit of saying "Rabbits!" as their first word on the first of the month to bring luck. Early 20th Century Folklore: By the 1920s and 30s, the tradition was well-established in British and North American folklore. It was often framed as a child's ritual, sometimes involving shouting the words up a chimney or saying them before morning prayers to receive a present by the end of the month. Famous Adopters and Popular Culture President Franklin D. Roosevelt: FDR was a famous practitioner of the habit. In 1935, a newspaper reported that he confessed to saying "Rabbits" every first of the month and wouldn't dream of skipping it. He was also known to carry a lucky rabbit's foot. World War II: During the war, RAF bomber crews reportedly said "white rabbits" upon waking each day as a protective charm. Nickelodeon (1990s): The tradition saw a resurgence in the U.S. when Nickelodeon promoted the last day of every month as "Rabbit Rabbit Day," reminding kids to say the phrase the following morning. Symbolic Roots The choice of the rabbit is likely linked to the animal's ancient association with fertility, abundance, and spring. In Celtic mythology, rabbits were believed to communicate with the spirit world because they lived underground. Common Rules & Variations: The "First Word" Rule: To "work," it must be the very first thing you say upon waking—before you even speak to a partner or pet. The "Tibbar" Fix: If you forget and speak before saying it, some folklore suggests you can reverse the bad luck by saying "Tibbar, Tibbar" (rabbit spelled backward) before you go to sleep that night. Regional Variations: In the UK, "White Rabbits" is more common, while "Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit" is frequently used in the U.S

REMEMBERING TV'S BLUE BLOODS AND HONORING POLICE FAMILIES

FALL FAMILY SPECIAL In this episode we say goodbye to TV's highly successful Bluebloods police drama as it takes its leave after 14 years on CBS, and we honor the sacrifices of law enforcement families who make our country and our neighborhoods safe by putting their lives on the line every day.  We offer the valid reasons for the show's great success.one of those reasons being the Reagan family dinner which closed nearly every episode with an open discussion among the family which covering the moral and procedural challenges that their city and police force faced.   We also cover the police support organization known as C.O.P.S. which supports families of fallen police officers  and promotes the blue.  As of late November 2025, at least 86 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty, while 285 have been shot (which includes both fatal and non-fatal shootings) in the U.S. this year. These figures come from organizations such as the National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF).

GIOVANNI'S RING: MY LIFE INSIDE THE REAL SOPRANOS AN INTERVIEW WITH RETIRED UNDERCOVER FBI AGENT AUTHOR GIOVANNI ROCCO

FALL FAMILY SERIES: HONORING THOSE WHO SACRIFICE FOR US GIOVANNI'S RING: MY LIFE INSIDE THE REAL SOPRANOS- 1001 Heroes Podcast Host Jon Hagadorn interviews retired undercover police/FBI agent Giovanni Rocco regarding his best-selling new book detailing his work to break up the most dangerous crime family in America- the sacrices he and his family made in the process, the stories-the incredible commitment he and others made and still make every day to fight crime- a GREAT story! Catch up with Giovanni at InsidetheLife.org today and follow his podcast! Giovanni's Ring is the story of "Giovanni Rocco," a New Jersey police officer, known undercover as "Giovanni Gatto," who spent over twenty years in various undercover roles, penetrating biker gangs, drug cartels, white supremacist groups, and domestic and international terror groups. Most significantly, he was the mysterious agent at the epicenter of Operation Charlie Horse, a federal undercover operation that ultimately brought down ten members and associates of New Jersey's DeCavalcante Mafia family—the criminal organization otherwise known to law enforcement as "the real Sopranos." Giovanni spent nearly three years working his way into the DeCavalcante hierarchy. He was so convincing in his role that capo Charlie "the Hat" Stango (also known as Charlie "Beeps") began to treat him as his "right hand." Over time, the personal relationship between the two men grew to a point where Charlie treated Giovanni more as a favored son than just an associate. Giovanni became so fully trusted that Stango went "on the record" for him with the family's administration and put him in charge of his own crew. Giovanni was permitted to attend meetings with other high-ranking members of the DeCavalcante crime family, as well as with senior members of New York's notorious Gambino, Genovese, and Lucchese Mafia families, and was authorized to speak on his capo's behalf. Each passing day became a roll of the dice for Giovanni, plaguing him with doubts: Is today the day my cover is blown? Is this the last day I see my wife and children? Will one of my deals between families or crews go bad and I'll get clipped? Is this all worth it? Stango eventually assigned Giovanni the task of killing Luigi "the Dog" Oliveri, a troublesome made member of the crime family. That lethal assignment brought the undercover operation to an end in March 2015, and the resulting string of high-profile arrests eviscerated the criminal organization. In the course of the operation, Giovanni secretly recorded hundreds of conversations relating to a wide range of crimes including counterfeit and contraband goods trafficking, warehouse robberies, truck hijackings, and drug trafficking. Also, and importantly for his own safety, he learned that the DeCavalcante family had secured access to sensitive law enforcement information, including information about specific investigations into DeCavalcante members and associates. Giovanni's Ring is not simply a chronicle of Giovanni Rocco's adventures in the murky and dangerous Mafia world he inhabited, but also a fascinating window into the psychological struggles that such a life inevitably entails. Whenever Giovanni returned to his real home and his real family, he needed to perform an invariable ritual: he parked in his driveway, removed his jeweled pinky ring, and dropped it in a cup holder, trying to drop the Gatto identity as well. Giovanni's Ring is a story that is by turns astonishing, electrifying, gut-wrenching, and always deeply human.

LIVE, LAUGH, FIND TRUE LOVE: INTERVIEW WITH AUTHOR SARAH INTELLIGATOR (FALL FAMILY & HONORING HEROES THEME)

Our interview with Los Angeles relationship author and divorce attorney covers every angle of getting into new relationship with a strong chance they will last if you follow her gre3at advice. The holidays are a good time for strengthening our friendships and family. Sarah's Book I highly recommend: LIVE, LAUGH, FIND TRUE LOVE: A Step by Step Guide to Finding A Meaningful Relationship Sarah A.Intelligator Want to know the secret to finding a meaningful and long-lasting relationship? Who doesn't! Whether you are divorced or looking to remarry, you have been in-and-out of failed relationships, you are uncertain about an existing relationship or you are simply prepared to ditch the single life . . .Whatever your race, gender, religion or sexual identity or orientation—this book is for you. Most relationship guides are written by therapists who base their advice on success stories. This is not that book. This is not your average relationship book. This book emerged from failure and offers a unique and fresh perspective. (Think, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," except the albatross is Zsa Zsa Gabor). Written by a divorce attorney with more than twenty years' experience, this book works backwards, scrutinizing and dissecting the reasons relationships go wrong, to help you find the right relationship. In working with thousands of divorcing couples, author Sarah Intelligator, has distilled several unmistakable patterns among failed relationships. She has reduced these patterns into six categories, "F-Words": Fundamental Values, Fear, Foundation, Fixing, Fairy Tale, and Family. This book will teach you to recognize and avoid these predictable patterns in your own search for a life partner, so that you may find a fulfilling and enduring relationship. Throughout the course of this book, you will be guided on an introspective journey of deep self-reflection. You will come out the other side not only with a more solid understanding of what you want in a relationship, but how to go about finding a partner best suited for you, because you deserve to love and be loved in a healthy way.

THE LEGEND OF THUNDER ROAD: FROM FAST CARS, MOUNTAIN BOYS, HOOCH, AND HOLLYWOOD, TO NASCAR

In the 30's, 40', and 50's, "white lightning', or strong mountain brewed whiskey, was an important revneue source for the mountain communities in Kentucky, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. But getting it out of the stills and down to the thirsty cities was tricky, as G-Men (revenue agents) did their best to put a stop on the distribution. Getting past the feds meant fast cars, fearless drivers, and some very top engineers capable of creating cars which could carry a ton a whiskey yet still make corners at high speeds and outrun their pursuers. In 1958 a movie called Thunder Road starring Robert Mitchum came out telling the story of a legend of a famous purportted incident in which a mountain boy, urged by his distiller father to make one last run, lost his life by crashing a roadblock and piling into a trnsformer station outside of Knoxville, Tennesee.  This is the fascinating story of the Legend, the song that Mitchum wrote for the movie that he starred in and mostly directed, the effect that the movie had on the South and moonshiners in general, and how the hot cars, the chases down those dark, twisting back roads, and the movie all came together to birth NASCAR. #Nascar #ThunderRoad #RobertMitchum  Sources: ●    Willie Clay Call - The Uncatchable ●    The crossroads of history: local distillery crafts historic moonshine for North Wilkesboro Speedway ●    Moonshine Runners And Their Role In The History Of Hot Rods - Street Muscle Magazine ●    A Knoxville Legend, Revealed: The Truth About Thunder Road ●    The legend of Thunder Road - farragutpress ●    Hear Thunder Road Roar: Beyond the Mythology of Moonshine | Appalachian Free Press The Ballad of Thunder Road at YouTube  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdwUpxkfSJw

THE MURDER OF FOUNDING FATHER GEORGE WYTHE- A TRUE CRIME STORY FROM OUR NATION'S BEGINNINGS

Great link for those who want the full story:"The Murder of George Wythe" https://wythepedia.wm.edu/index.php/Murder_of_George_Wythe   Title page from Boyd and Hemphill's pamphlet reprint, The Murder of George Wythe: Two Essays (Williamsburg, VA: Institute of Early American History and Culture, 1955). Julian P. Boyd (1903 – 1980), renowned editor of The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, contributed to a special issue of The William and Mary Quarterly in October, 1955. The issue was published in recognition of the Marshall-Wythe celebration at the College of William & Mary Law School on September 25, 1954, for the bicentennial of John Marshall's birth. The journal pairs Boyd's essay on "The Murder of George Wythe,"[1] with another by W. Edwin Hemphill, "Examinations of George Wythe Swinney for Forgery and Murder."[2] Hemphill had rediscovered witness testimony given for Sweeney's murder trial in 1806, and both authors made use of this new information. Boyd and Hemphill's work was published as a pamphlet reprint the same year, under the title: The Murder of George Wythe: Two Essays (Williamsburg, VA: Institute of Early American History and Culture, 1955). Article text, October 1955 Page 513 The Murder of George Wythe Julian P. Boyd* The murder of George Wythe was, in the deeply-felt words of his greatest student and admirer, Thomas Jefferson, "such an instance of depravity [as] has been hitherto known to us only in the fables of the poets."[3] Few if any crimes have so greatly aroused the inhabitants of Virginia. Popular indignation rose to fever pitch, for the circumstances of the crime left no room for divided feelings. The murderer was the grandnephew and residuary legatee of the Chancellor, a favored beneficiary of Wythe's many acts of kindness and generosity. He was young, apparently reckless, no doubt a gambler and spendthrift, and certainly a callous ingrate. Wythe was eighty years old, universally beloved, and too generously trusting to be suspicious of those closest to him. The story is worth telling, though it is unrelieved in its grimness, because history, no less than judicial process, took a strange course in its attitude toward this brutal crime and its perpetrator. THE LAST STAND AT OSOWEIC FORTRESS: THE BATTLE THAT INSPIRED SABATON'S "THE ATTACK OF THE DEAD MEN"

In 1915, Russian defenders launched a gruesome counterattack that repelled the German invaders.  What made it so gruesome? The Russians were the victims of German gas warfare, involving chlorine and bromine gases, which devastated the Russian garrison at Osowiec Fortress.  It did not quite work out the way the Germans planned however.  The Germans had underestimated the sheer will and determination of the Russian defenders.  In this episode, part of our series, Summer of Last Stands,  we give you the gore and the glory, the details of the Russian countercharge by survivors that were walking dead men, their flesh dissolving before the eyes of the terrified German offence, as the enemy scrambled in panicked retreat.  Resources used "Attack of the Dead Men" - History Insights "Attack of the Dead Men" - Wikipedia "Attack of the Dead Men: The World War I Battle That Was Like a Scene Out of a Horror Movie" - War History Online "How Did Russian Soldiers Continue To Fight Following Exposure To Deadly Gas During World War I?" - ScienceABC "Osowiec Fortress" - Wikipedia "Representations of the Poison Gas War on the Eastern Front, 1915–1917" - The Cambridge World History of Genocide (Chapter 27) "The Defense of Osowiec Fortress in WWI" - Gordon Hesterberg, Prezi Links to Song mentioned in the podcast: Aria - "Attack of the Dead" https://youtu.be/6MY-g2FcN90?feature=shared Sabaton - "Attack of the Dead Men" https://youtu.be/-AFdwoyNT24?feature=shared

THE LAST STAND OF CASTLE ITTER 1945: WWII'S LAST AND STRANGEST MAJOR BATTLE

The closing days of the war in Europe provided some of the most dramatic mmoments of the war, and the battle at Castle Itter in the Tyrolean Alps, a well-guarded Nazi "prison" for high-value political prisoners, was no exception. With Hitler's suicide followed by the announcement of Germany's surrender, many German troops began running for cover or surrendering, as did the castle guard at Castle Itter, however, the ever faithfull Waffen-SS had not surrendered and was killing as many prisoners and combatants as they could, The prisoners in the castle knew the Americans were approaching, and sent for help. Some of the prison guards changed allegiance and vowed to protect the prisoners. Soon a mixed crew of Austrian resistance fighters, ex-Nazi's, castle prisoners, including a famous tennis star, and American soldiers were holding off a Waffen-SS forceof 300 seasoned fighters intending to wipe out the castle's defenders- but despite their artillery and numbers, the castle defenders put up an incredible fight. THE CURSE OF BUNNYMAN

In a new suburban development outside of Fairfax, VA, in 1970, a young military man and his bride to be were stopping to visit a family member who had recently purchased a new home across from a vacant lot. Suddenly a man in a bunny suit approached their car, slinging an axe, and shouting at them to leave.  He then broke their car window,  splattering the young lady with glass, and, before they were able to pull away, threw the axe into the car as he screamed "You people are destroying the land...all of you have to leave".  He was then seen either skipping or running away, according to the story they gave to police. The young lady was unharmed but thoroughly shaken.  Since that day the story has morphed, pulling elements from unproven sources...elements regarding escaped mental asylum patients, dead rabbits, murdered children, and placing it all near the old Colchester Bridge in Clifton, VA. In this story we investigate to see if there is even a grain of truth to the story which has grown aroundnot one but two Bunnyman appearances in 1970.   Join us at www.bestof1001stories.com for all our podcasts and episodes, sorted by category for easy listening.

THE VALIANT DEFENSE OF RORKE'S DRIFT (#2 SUMMER SERIES FAMOUS LAST STANDS)

# 2 In our summer series "Famous Last Stands" is The Valiant Defense of Rorke's Drift, which was a 10 hour battle between a beleagured British outpost in the center of Zulu territory which was attacked by a very large Zulu force in 1879. Outnumbered 40 to 1 , the small garrison fought bravely, often in hand to hand combat, with many surviving and claiming 20 Zulus for every fallen soldier.  Coming Sunday 12:30 ET: The Battle of Khe Sanh "Hold At All Costs". 2,500 US Marines, Army, AF, and ARVN vs. 40,000 enemy troops The Battle of Rorke's Drift, also known as the Defence of Rorke's Drift, was an engagement in the Anglo-Zulu War. The successful British defence of the mission station of Rorke's Drift, under the command of Lieutenants John Chard of the Royal Engineers and Gonville Bromhead of the 24th Regiment of Foot, began once a large contingent of Zulu warriors broke off from the main force during the final hour of the British defeat at the day-long Battle of Isandlwana on 22 January 1879. They travelled ten kilometres (six miles) to attack Rorke's Drift later that day and continuing into the following day. Just over 150 British and colonial troops defended the station against attacks by 3,000 to 4,000 Zulu warriors. The massive but piecemeal attacks by the Zulu on Rorke's Drift came very close to overwhelming the much smaller garrison, but were consistently repelled. Eleven Victoria Crosses were awarded to individual defenders, along with a number of other decorations and honors. In 1764 in a small province in south central France,a wolf-like beast began to prey on the people of that community. For three years it continued killing, savagely, terrorizing the region, while eluding all efforts to kill it. Many thought it was unstoppable-that it was the beast from hell. BEST OF (#72 OF 541) THE DARING SEA RESCUE OF THE E.S. NEWMAN & OTHER LIVE SAVING LEGENDS

The story of The Pea Island Life Saving Station on North Carolina's Outer Banks and the rescue of 9 passengers and crew from the E.S. Newman by Richard Etheridge and crew in 1879; plus stories of life-saving legends Dunbar John Davis (NC) and Capt. Joshua James (Massachusetts).. Etheridge, a former Union soldier and slave who was born on the Outer Banks, was awarded head keeper of the Pea island Life Saving Station, the only all-black life saving facility in the country, and unlike many of  his white counterparts,, his crew was overlooked when medals were given to surfmen who had acted courageously to save lives. Etheridge;s crew's saving of the 9 passengers aboard the storm-tossed E.S. Newman during hurricane conditions was submitted for review recently and the well earned awards were given posthumously. Methods used to save lives are discussed in this story, which you should find interesting. It was along this coast where Richard Etheridge and his crew performed their duty, rescuing victims from the rages of the sea. The 1896 hurricane season produced the highest Atlantic tides in 50 years, destroying structures and property from the Carolinas to New Jersey. E.S. Newman Rescue Their most famous rescue was the wreck of the E.S. Newman on the night of October 11, 1896. The 393 ton schooner—carrying six crewmen, Captain Garner, his wife, and three-year-old son Tommy—ran aground south of the station during a hurricane. The hurricane was so intense that the ocean and sound became one body of water. He called Keeper Etheridge up to the tower and another red flare was spotted. The Keeper mustered the crew. While others on the island took cover to wait out the storm, Richard Etheridge and his crew went out into the storm. In waist deep water the men hauled the beach cart to the site of the wreck. After quickly assessing the situation, it became apparent to Etheridge that none of the equipment on the cart could be used to rescue the people off the ship. He called for volunteers to jump into the raging surf and swim out to the E.S. Newman that was stuck just beyond the inner bar. Theodore Meekins and Stanley Wise stepped forward; the two men bound themselves together with a line, and the other end of the line was secured by surfmen on shore. Meekins and Wise slowly made their way out to the E.S. Newman through the raging surf. Dodging debris from the wreckage, the two men reached the wreck. They were able to get a line aboard the wreck using a heaving stick, and three-year-old Tommy was the first to be saved. Tucked tightly in the arms of a surfman, the three were pulled through the surf by the surfmen on shore. The remaining eight persons were rescued from the ship in that same manner. HOW MONUMENT VALLEY SAVED HOLLYWOOD WESTERNS AND LAUNCHED JOHN WAYNE'S CAREER

Journey with me back to 1938 as a young couple named Mike and Leone Goulding, having invested in a trading post in Navaho Country and fallen in love with the beautiful landscape and the Navaho people who populated what we call Monument Valley Utah/Arizona today- saved their pennies and photos and took a long road trip to Hollywood to find director John Ford and convince him that their valley would be the ideal place to film his next western movie, despite there being no lodging, no restaurants, and no electricity.  Its a great story and a few quotes and movie memories are offered. I HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!

FALL FAMILY THEME AT 1001 : SGT. DINWIDDIE'S WAR: B-17'S AND THE BELGIAN UNDERGROUND IN WWII: 1001 HEROES INTERVIEWS AUTHOR TERRY IRWIN

The story of Sgt. Don Dinwiddie, radioman on the B-17 GI Sheets, and his crew as they barely survived being shot down in German-held territory on Jan 29th, 1944,as told by author Terry Irwin. Today's history classes really don't teach the many ways that commen men with uncommon courage fought for our freedom in WWII- and this story is a great example. Saturday, January 29, 1944 -- it was the day that forever changed the life of T/Sgt. Don Dinwiddie, radioman on the G.I. Sheets, a B-17 bomber on a mission to destroy Nazi targets in Frankfurt, Germany. Hobbled by a bad engine and struggling to make it back to safety amidst enemy flak and German fighter planes, the G.I. Sheets was shot down over Belgium. Aided by members of the Belgian underground, Don evaded capture for nearly four months before being betrayed and handed over to the Germans; he finished the remainder of the war as a POW, spending the last eighty-six days behind enemy lines on a 600-mile forced march. Sgt. Dinwiddie's War is the story of the G.I. Sheets, its crew, and their fight for freedom in war-torn Europe.   Check out our new website at www.bestof1001stories.com!  Thanks for listening!

MISSING DOWN UNDER: THE TOM PHILLIPS STORY

Tom Phillips and his three young children disappeared from the isolated rural Waikato town of Marokopa on 9 December 2021. New Zealand Police believe that the children were taken by their father to a location somewhere in the western Waikato, after a dispute with their mother. Phillips is alleged to have committed a bank robbery in September 2023, but the first sighting of all three children with their father was on 3 October 2024, when they were spotted walking through Marokopa farmland. However, despite a three-day search of the area, including the use of a military helicopter, they have not yet been located. Background Marokopa seen from above Before their disappearance, Tom Phillips lived in Ōtorohanga in New Zealand's Waikato district with his three children.[ They also spent much of their time at the family farm in Marokopa. Phillips had been separated from his wife Catherine for several years and was homeschooling the children.[citation needed]  He is an experienced hunter and camper. JON'S TOP 10 WWII (#3) GREG "PAPPY" BOYINGTON'S BLACK SHEEP SQUADRON

Gregory "Pappy" Boyington (December 4, 1912 – January 11, 1988) was an American combat pilot who was a United States Marine Corps fighter ace during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. A Marine aviator with the Pacific fleet in 1941, Boyington joined the "Flying Tigers" (1st American Volunteer Group) of the Republic of China Air Force and saw combat in Burma in late 1941 and 1942 during the Second Sino-Japanese War. In September 1942, Boyington rejoined the Marine Corps. In early 1943, he deployed to the South Pacific and began flying combat missions in the F4U Corsair fighter. On August 14, 1943, he took command of Marine fighter squadron VMF-214 ("Black Sheep"). In January 1944, Boyington, outnumbered by Japanese "Zero" planes, was shot down into the Pacific Ocean after downing one of the enemy planes. He was captured by a Japanese submarine crew and was held as a prisoner of war for more than a year and a half. He was released shortly after the surrender of Japan. The television series Baa Baa Black Sheep was inspired by Boyington and his men in the "Black Sheep" squadron. REMEMBERING THE HARVEY GIRLS AND HOW THEY TAMED THE WILD WEST

By 1880 the ATS&F Railroad had laid tracks from Kansas City to California- and people and products were starting to move through the still untamed west. Food along the way, however, was a spotty proposition, and the railroad was faced with a dilemma. Cooks were hard to keep employed, and waiters were hard to find. Thats when Fred Harvey, who had emigrated from England to the US at age 15 and got into the restaurant, and then the train business- saw an  opportunity. He went to the offices of the Atcheson, Yopeka, & Santa Fe Railroad and offered them a plan. If the railroads would give him the dining cars and let him upgrade the stops every hundred miles or so- he (Harvey) would provide first class food services. It was a win-win. But Harvey didn't stop tghere. He placed ads in central US newspapers looking for educated, proper young ladies who were willing to head west with the railroads while working for a select group of upscale restaurants. Many young girls who saw no future in their lives outside of farm and domestic work lept at the opportunity- and the Harvey Girls were born.  This is their story.   Citations and Sources:  Citations and Sources: 1 Setting the Standard: The Harvey Girls. To find more like this one, check out our website www.bestof1001stories.com  then "episodes", "categories"- dropdown  "Last Stands and Long Shots". On October 25, 1944, through a series of naval movements, a small 13 ship destroyer task force found itself the only thing between a huge 23 ship Japanese battle fleet and the American landing force attempting to free the Japanese held Philippine Islands. When the choice came to run south, one destroyer commander named Ernest Evans,a Cherokee Indian who had joined to fight, charged the entire Japanese fleet alone, guns blazing and torpedoes firing, while the crew of largest battleship in the world, the Yamato, watched in stunned amazement. This incredibly brave action gave the rest of the small support force named Taffy 3 the incentive to attack, which they did, ultimately wreaking huge damage upon the surprised Japanese fleet, saving the Philippine invasion, and handing the Japanese navy a defeat from which they never recovered. THE MAURY ISLAND UFO INCIDENT & THE MEN IN BLACK BIRTHDAY BASH

Here is our interview with filmmaker/producer Steve Edmiston ("The Maury Island Incident", Youtube) regarding the Maury Island UFO incident which occurred in June 1947 in the Seattle/Tacoma area. For all of you who live within a day's drive of Seattle WA you really need to consider attending the 4th annual,MIBB- the Men in Black Birthday Bash-to honor the event which all began with the alleged sighting of three UFO's by Harold Dahl, son, and boat crew in 1947, just a few days before. Come dressed in black. Aliens welcome. This is one of the craziest UFO stories out there, and it doesn't get much attention because there was no early report or investigation and the initial facts were blurred by Dah's friend /partner who was possibly tyring to profit by magnifying an incident which may or may not have been a legitimate otherworldy visit.   Flaming metal shards, according to Dahl's account, were released by one the disc-shaped crafts that flew by his boat, striking the boat, landing on the deck, killing his son's dog, and burning his son, panicking the crew and causing the boat to be beached on Maury Island. It was later suggested that the power source for one of the craft had exploded, causing the shrapnel. Dahl and Crisman reported that "men in black" visited their homes and workplaces askling questions about the event, of which they were already aware, and telling they and the families to be quiet about what had happened.  Later Dahl retracted his story. Both the Air Force and the FBI labed the story a hoax.  Every year for the past three years the area celebrates the event with week long festivities and calls it 'The Men in Black Birthday Bash" and visitors can attent multiple events as well as a hike along the Southside UFO Trail.  Holy flying saucers! The Men in Black Birthday Bash (aka MIBBB Fest) is landing again starting June 13, 2025, bigger, funnier and quirkier than ever in 2025. This year's celebration of the Washington State origins of the mythic Men in Black will boast nine days of events. The festival commemorates the historic Maury Island Incident. This 1947 UFO sighting prompted the first reported encounter with a Man in Black, right here in the Pacific Northwest.  Alien Abductee Look-Alike Contest is Friday, June 13 The festival kicks off on Friday, June 13, 2025 with an alien abductee look-alike contest inspired by the recurring SNL character Colleen Rafferty (Kate McKinnon). Alienvitation Scavenger Hunt Starts Friday, June 13 Friday the 13th also launches seven days of an Alienvitation Scavenger Hunt at the Westfield Southcenter Mall, where you can solve clues, collect prizes, experience new museum-quality Maury Island Incident and Men in Black interactive exhibits. You can even use a phone booth to invite the 1947 aliens back to see what's new. The Maury Island Incident Film Screening June 20 Immerse yourself in our region's UFO history and mythology at Saucers and Sass. This big-screen showing of the multiple award-winning The Maury Island Incident film will be followed by a drag queen-hosted sci-fi trivia contest and party. Men in Black Birthday Bash is Saturday, June 21 The festival's signature cosplay event, the Men in Black Birthday Bash, happens Saturday, June 21. Guests come dressed in variations of black and white for an evening of music, entertainment and quirky traditions that celebrate the origin story of the iconic Men in Black. The Waterland Arcade hosts an afterparty with DJ'd, space-themed music. Bash attendees and cosplayers will receive a discounted entry.

JON'S TOP TEN WWII PICKS (#1 OF 10) THE COMMANDO RAID ON ST. NAZAIRE

JON'S TOP TEN WWII FAVORITES:  #1 OF 10  BEST "The Commando Raid on St. Nazaire: the Most Daring Raid of WWII": The St. Nazaire Raid, also known as Operation Chariot, was a British Amphibious attack on the heavily defended Normandie drydock at St. Nazaire on March 26th, 1942. The objective of the raid was to destroy the drydock in German-held St. Nazaire, thus denying an Atlantic repair port to the new and powerful German battleship Tirpitz, which by itself was capable of winning the battle for the North Atlantic and cutting off England from much needed supplies. A joint operation involving over 200 British Commandos supported by Naval forces and RAF, the raid, costly in human lives, was the most decorated single action in British WWII naval history. #WWII #Commandos #TheGreatestRaidofAll #StNazaire #Podcast #HistoryPodcast  . The ship had been packed with delayed-action explosives, well hidden within a steel and concrete case, that detonated later that day, putting the dock out of service until 1948.[4] A force of commandos landed to destroy machinery and other structures. German gunfire sank, set ablaze, or immobilized virtually all the small craft intended to transport the commandos back to England. The commandos fought their way through the town to escape overland but many surrendered when they ran out of ammunition or were surrounded by the Wehrmacht defending Saint-Nazaire. Of the 612 men who undertook the raid, 228 returned to Britain, 169 were killed and 215 became prisoners of war. German casualties included over 360 dead, some of whom were killed after the raid when Campbeltown exploded. To recognise their bravery, 89 members of the raiding party were awarded decorations, including five Victoria Crosses. After the war, St Nazaire was one of 38 battle honours awarded to the commandos. The operation has been called "the greatest raid of all" in British military circles.

REMEMBERING AMERICA'S 1ST WWII FIGHTER ACE THE INCREDIBLE STORY OF BUTCH O'HARE:

I first heard this story on Paul Harvey years ago., and I've retold it in part but never in full. This is the story of Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry O'Hare (March 13, 1914 – November 26, 1943) who was an American naval aviator of the United States Navy, who on February 20, 1942, became the Navy's first fighter ace of the war when he single-handedly attacked a formation of nine Japanese medium bombers approaching his aircraft carrier. Even though he had a limited amount of ammunition, he was credited with shooting down five enemy bombers and became the first naval aviator recipient of the Medal of Honor in World War II.  Butch's father had been the attorney for gangster Al Capone for years and at some point had agreed to go undercover for the US Treasury Service in order to expose Capone for tax evasion- the spoken legend being that Eddie (EJ), Butch;'s father, knew that by testifying to Capone's dirty dealings he would be putting a target on his own back, and agreed to give up Capone in exchange for the promise that Butch could attend  the US Naval Academy. EJ testified, Capone went to prison, and in revenge, as the legend (most likely true) goes, EJ was shot and killed while driving to work.  On September 19, 1949, the Chicago-area Orchard Field Airport was renamed O'Hare International Airport, sin honor of Butch o'Hare.. An F4F Wildcat, in a livery identical to the aircraft ("White F-15") flown by O'Hare, is on display in Terminal 2. The display was formally opened on the seventy-fifth anniversary of his Medal of Honor flight  See picture of Butch and his wife while being awarded the Medal of Honor. at our web page at 1001 heroes here: www.bestof1001stories.com.
