Summary

The movie Raiders of the Lost Ark was the highest grossing movie of 1981 and ensuring lasting stardom for Harrison Ford and Debra Allen. The plot, centered in the 1930's, featured an archeology professor from the US vying against Hitler's agents to recover the Lost Ark of the Covenant, which the Germans believed had power they could harness for war. In this story we cover the true story of the German quest to prove Aryan supremacy by searching the world for archeological proof of their superiority as well as the challenges faced by the movie actors and production staff-challenges which included working with thousands of poisonous snakes and in extreme temperatures.

And before we begin this story, I have an announcement for you.

0:34.9

With this episode, we're celebrating our 1001 episode for the 1001 Stories Network,

0:40.9

which I launched in January of 2015. My idea at the time was to create a conglomerative stories

0:46.7

borrowed from four basic themes, heroes, legends, histories, and mysteries. And that idea just kept

0:53.3

blossoming. I've never run out of inspiration and

0:56.3

ideas because there are so many great stories out there. Each story to me is a treasure that I want

1:02.1

to share with others. I see it as a journey, an adventure, if you will, and researching a story, to me

1:07.9

at least, is like an archaeological dig, hoping to find gems

1:11.7

that will inform, entertain, and sometimes inspire. Doing a story on Raiders of the Lost

1:18.0

Arc for episode number 1001 is a fitting tribute to the show as we share something in common

1:24.0

with the concept of the movie, The Search for Historical Treasures. From 1001 movie, the search for historical treasures.

1:33.3

From 1001 heroes and the search for historical treasures came to search for literary treasures.

1:40.5

1001 classic short stories and tales, 1001 stories for the road, and our other 1001 shows that feature narration of some of the greatest stories which are now in the public domain,

1:45.3

short and long. And that has been and remains a very satisfying quest and yet another way to share

1:51.4

with those who enjoy great stories. My appreciation for men and women writers of classic literature

1:57.0

has grown tenfold these past few years, and few things are more exciting to me

2:01.9

than being able to discover and share these stories from a wide variety of genres. To me,

2:07.5

you can get much more from a well-written story than you'll ever get from movies or TV. Stories

2:13.4

stimulate your thinking that make you imagine. They allow you to see things you'll never get

2:18.0

out of a movie. It's like walking the same path you've been driving for years. When you walk it,
