We are continuing our collection of talks today entitled contend. Someone say contend. This is week three.

I've titled today's message, one battle after another. One battle after another. If you know you know,

don't at me, I won't see it. Our foundational passage for this collection is found in Jude

chapter one. Go with me there. Jude chapter one verses one to three. Jude starts like this,

his letter. He says, Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and a brother

of James to those who have been called, who are loved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ.

Mercy, peace, and love be yours in abundance. Someone's got to get that clear in the trash.

I don't know if you hear that everywhere.

Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share,

I felt compelled to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all

entrusted to God's holy people.

Jude, he says, and go back to him, Jude says, listen, I wanted to write to you about salvation,

but I felt compelled. I felt compelled to write to you to contend for the faith.

The ESV translation, it says, I found it necessary. I wanted to write to you about salvation, but I needed to write to you about contending

for the faith. Now, listen, we live in a time when it is necessary to talk to each other about contending for the faith.

This is like all times that have come before it, by the way.

It's nothing new.

It's always been necessary.

We have to talk about contending for the faith.
