And he thought he saw a group of people performing mass and dancing around a lighted door.

Also, he was pretty sure they were dead.

Understandably, the priest was terrified

and decided not to confront them that night.

He left instead.

He went to see his bishop in the morning and asked him what to do.

The bishop told him to sleep inside the church that night in order to deter any unwanted

visitors, arrive or dead.

During the medieval era, it was not uncommon

for priests to sleep in their church.

This made things not only convenient for the priest, but it protected the church through the night as well. So the next night the priest did as the bishop told him to do.

He took his mattress and slept in the church and somehow he was actually able to get to sleep.

Even though he was there to deter other worldly intruders,

the dead came back to the church to perform mass anyway.

Before doing so though, they took the priest and his bed and threw them out of the church.
