| 0:00.0 | Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another year of True Crime with Kendall Ray |
| 0:11.4 | 26. Here we are, and thank you so much for joining me. As always, if you're new to the show, |
| 0:19.0 | then welcome. So happy to have you. |
| 0:21.3 | Today we're kicking off the year by talking about a case that so many of you brought to my attention |
| 0:28.0 | when I covered Eliza Fletcher midway through 2025. And it's because Sydney's case is very similar. |
| 0:36.5 | We're going to be talking about 25-year-old Sydney Sutherland |
| 0:40.9 | and her heartbreaking story. |
| 0:43.6 | Just like Eliza, she was a young woman who was out on a run |
| 0:47.1 | when she was murdered. |
| 0:50.0 | Her story is absolutely heart-wrenching. |
| 0:54.4 | I mean, it's just so unnecessary and out of nowhere. |
| 0:59.9 | I mean, no one could have seen this coming. |
| 1:02.7 | And I actually mentioned Sidney briefly in the Eliza Fletcher episode. |
| 1:07.1 | I knew some of the details, but I didn't get fully into it until preparing for this episode. |
| 1:12.2 | And man, I am just so disturbed and so sad for her family. |
| 1:17.8 | And I find cases like Elizas and Sydney's really important to talk about for several reasons. |
| 1:24.0 | I mean, for starters, these are women who deserve to be remembered, of course, and I want to highlight them for who they were, not just what happened to them, not just the headlines surrounding their names. And both of their cases highlight the importance of personal safety, specifically runner's safety. And obviously, being abducted while on a run is something that disproportionately affects women. |
| 1:47.3 | And as much as I hate that the responsibility gets put on us, it is on us, really, to learn how to better protect ourselves. |
| 1:56.9 | That's just the world we live in. |
| 1:58.7 | We have to be prepared. |
| 2:00.3 | It's the sad reality of things. And I know every time I cover a case like this and I talk about this, people are like, it shouldn't be our fault. It shouldn't be our responsibility. And I agree with you. I'm not trying to scare people. I'm not trying to tell people not to run or not, you know, to go outside and be athletic or to hike, but it is |
