Summary
On December 16, 2022, 32-year-old nurse Alex Pennig had been found dead in her bathroom at home, victim to an allegedly self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. But there were some serious inconsistencies with how she would have shot herself using her non-dominant hand, and why her hands were completely clean. Also in her apartment at the time was Matthew Ecker, a fellow nurse she was seeing who was supposedly just hanging out in the next room when she shot herself… with his gun.

| 0:00.0 | Hello, everyone, and welcome back to another episode of True Crime with Kendall Ray. |
| 0:11.1 | Thank you so much for joining me. |
| 0:13.3 | And if you're new to my show, then welcome. |
| 0:15.2 | I'm happy to have you here. |
| 0:16.5 | So, you guys, today we are going to be talking about the wildly bizarre case of Alexandra |
| 0:24.3 | Penig. And the reason I say it's bizarre is because I just can't wrap my mind around how |
| 0:32.2 | things went downhill the night that this happened so quickly. It's one that I will be super curious to hear your |
| 0:39.8 | opinion on because I know there are a lot of opinions out there on this case. There are a lot of |
| 0:45.6 | people who believe that the jury got it wrong and many others believe that justice was served. |
| 0:52.0 | It all kind of depends on, you know, which version of events |
| 0:56.2 | you believe and if the evidence is compelling enough to you. And with that, let's go ahead and |
| 1:01.3 | start talking about Alex's case, starting with how her story began. Alexander Penning, |
| 1:07.2 | or Alex, as most people called her, was born on December 22nd, 1989 to her parents |
| 1:12.1 | married Joe and Jim. And she was living in Minnesota at the time of her death, specifically in |
| 1:17.8 | St. Paul, although I wasn't able to get clarity on where she was born and raised. From what I was |
| 1:22.9 | able to find, though, it's obvious to me that she made a big impact in her 32 short years of life. |
| 1:28.9 | Alex has lovingly been described as smart, empathetic, vibrant, and also as someone who has |
| 1:34.5 | always had a place in her heart for the underdogs in our society. |
| 1:38.2 | She deeply cared for her family and her friends, and she also had a soft spot for animals. |
| 1:43.4 | I learned that she often brought in |
| 1:45.1 | stray cats, girl after my own heart. This one was a stray that I found outside of my apartment |
| 1:51.3 | complex a long time ago as the baby and I bottle fed her, so I totally get it. She even had two cats |
